To reduce the incidence of new sickle cell births and improve the quality of life of individuals and families living with sickle cell disease (SCD).

About This Cause

Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO) was established in 2005 and has since established itself as the leading patient support and advocacy organization providing evidence based support to families with Sickle Cell Disease across the four regions of the province. It supports clinical research, engages in psycho-social research, health promotion, patients & care providers’ education, community awareness, the development, dissemination and implementation of best practices guidelines. It also provides evidentiary advocacy on their behalf with the government, schools, workplaces and healthcare system. Since its establishment, SCAGO invests 100% of its resources in improving the quality of life of individuals and families affected by SCD. Currently, over 1500 individuals and families affected by SCD and sickle cell trait (SCT) tap into various services offered by the SCAGO.
