Placing an emphasis on women, girls, people with disabilities, Indigenous youth and newcomers, CLC is proud to work with learners to make sure that everyone has access to the knowledge they need to prosper in our digital world.
About This Cause
Canada Learning Code is Canada's leading national charity championing digital literacy education. We firmly believe that digital literacy is a fundamental skill that can unlock countless opportunities for people to build, work and live with technology. Placing a special emphasis on women, girls, people with disabilities, Indigenous youth and newcomers, Canada Learning Code is proud to work with learners in Ontario to make sure that everyone has access to the knowledge they need to prosper in our digital world. Canada Learning Code was originally founded in 2011 as Ladies Learning Code in Toronto, Canada by four women seeking to improve gender parity in the technology industry. During this time, only 25% of information and communication technology (ICT) roles were occupied by women. Fast forward to 2024 and while we've made significant strides to help women, youth and other equity-deserving groups across the country access opportunities in computer science, there remains an urgent need to bridge the underrepresentation gap as technology accelerates faster than ever. Canada Learning Code is committed to focus on supporting adult learning and specifically creating robust learning pathways - outcomes based workforce development opportunities - for adult learners in Ontario and across the nation to advance their careers. To realize our vision where all people in Canada can build and not just consume technology, we need to remain steadfast in maximizing our resources towards this aim. This means focusing our efforts on the work we are uniquely positioned to do and will have the most impact to drive change. To that end, Canada Learning Code has committed its next Strategic Plan - 2024 and beyond - to focus on supporting adult learning and specifically creating robust pathways for adult learners to advance their careers.
