To provide backpacks of food for children in inner city schools for weekend consumption.
About This Cause
Backpack Buddies bridges the weekend hunger gap. On Friday afternoons, we fill backpacks with food for children in need to take home for the weekend. Each backpack is filled with food for all meals for an entire weekend: two breakfasts, lunches and dinners, plus snacks and fresh fruit. Backpacks are made possible by Buddies in our community: students at Buddy Schools, community volunteers, and corporate employee groups who raise funds, purchase food, and pack bags of weekend meals for a child who needs it. Backpack Buddies provides a hands-on approach for children and adults to address local food security issues and the potential for the community to take action to do something about it.
