Mission Statement
Social pediatrics is an interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral and empowering practice that favours a holistic approach to children's health. This practice is conducted in constant dialogue with the child's home environment, focusing specifically on strengths and key people in the child’s life. Moreover, social pediatrics aims to prevent and remedy any gaps in a child's development brought about by growing up in a disadvantaged milieu.
About This Cause
Community social pediatrics touches on the disciplines of health, social sciences and law. All involved parties work together towards a common goal: encouraging the well-being and development of children, while also respecting their fundamental rights and maintaining a consistent link with their environment (family, friends, recreation). Simply put, interdisciplinary work within community social pediatrics teams, as well as the intersectoral work with different networks (health, social services, youth protection, school, community, legal) is essential to this model. The Fondation du Dr Julien provides services in Montreal through its two social pediatrics centres - Assistance d'enfants en difficulté (AED) and Centre de services préventifs à l'enfance (CSPE) - as well as the Garage à Musique which combines the practice of community social pediatrics, educational support and the collective practice of music for children and youth aged 0 to 20 years. The Fondation also supports a network of Social Pediatrics Centres throughout the province.
