Mission Statement
Our mission is to support legitimate and ethical Canadian Pet Rescue organizations by assisting them with fundraising for medical care and with public awareness and education and allowing our members to better focus on the care and finding of a suitable home for the pets they have rescued. Each pet listed on our member's websites and links has been saved by a member rescue organization, evaluated, given proper medical care and is available for adoption through that organization.
About This Cause
Helping Homeless Pets was created in November 2006 to help volunteer-operated organizations who help pets get a second chance at a new home and who help reduce the number of pets who may become homeless or abandoned. We do this by directly supporting Pet Rescue Groups, giving them opportunities to liaise and help each other with transports, assessments and home visits, and by helping to publicly raise awareness and educate future and current pet owners. We are working to unite pet rescues across Canada with the knowledge that by working together we can rescue more homeless pets and prevent future homeless pets. Rescue is an "industry" that is unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a Rescue. It can be hard to look past a slick website or social media to determine if a rescue organization is really doing what they claim to be doing, ensuring that the animals they take in are properly vetted and cared for, and that their adopters get properly screened pre-adoption and supported post-adoption. HHP requires that our member Rescues observe a Code of Conduct. A Code of Ethics is also in place for dog and cat rescues.
