Mission Statement

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a personal development program for youth between the ages of 14 and 24. The program is available to all young people regardless of circumstance, background, or ability. Our mission is to provide a program that enables young people to build their confidence, self-esteem, and abilities through new opportunities and experiences.

About This Cause

The Award program is structured in a way to allow young people to customize the activities that are of personal interest to them. The four overarching areas are: - Community Service: develops empathy, self-esteem, and provides opportunity for building perspective and understanding. - a Skill (hobby): allows youth to choose an activity they want to learn and develop. These range from musical instruments, artistic endeavours, learning a new language, and employment skills such as food handler's certification. - Physical Recreation: is the key to emotional and physical wellbeing and encourages youth to stay active throughout their life. - Adventurous Journey: allows youth to experience a new environment and learn outdoor skills while also developing independence to think for themselves while going on a camping trip. The ability for the youth to customize their own program works to better engage with youth. The program also facilitates an opportunity for the youth to be formally recognized for their achievements. At the Bronze level, they are presented their award in the community at a special ceremony. The Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba presents all of the Silver level awards at a ceremony held at Government House. At the Gold level, the awards are presented by a member of the Royal family or the Governor General of Canada.
