Mission Statement

The Ten Oaks Project is a volunteer-driven charitable organization that engages and connects children and youth from 2SLGBTQ+ (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer) identities, families and communities through summer camp programs. Our work is inspired by camp and grounded in social justice.

About This Cause

Based in Ottawa, the Ten Oaks Project was founded in 2004 and continues to offer a variety of essential programming each year. WE ARE GUIDED BY FIVE CORE VALUES: Empowerment through play Learning by doing Social justice Collaboration and innovation People We offer two annual camp programs to children and youth: Camp Ten Oaks (ages 8-17), and Camp Lifting Leaves (ages 12-21 with an open children's services file). We also offer workshops for summer camp providers to help them build capacity to welcome campers from 2SLGBTQ+ communities. To support young people of 2SLGBTQ+ identities, families, and communities year round, we also offer caregiver support programs. Families in Transition offers support to caregivers of new trans and gender diverse young people, and Shaping Parenthood helps 2SLGBTQ+ folks grow their families. With your help, we can create safer spaces for children and youth from 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
