Mission Statement
To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
About This Cause
Founded in 2009, Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent is a non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to call home. With the help of volunteers, Habitat homeowners and community partners, Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent has built 7 homes for families in our community and has plans for an eighth in Chatham scheduled for the summer of 2023. Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent does not give away free homes. The families who partner with us pay an interest-free mortgage geared to their income and volunteer 500 hours with us. As Habitat homeowners pay off their mortgage, the funds are invested into a revolving fund, which is used to build more homes for low-income families in the community. Our model of affordable homeownership bridges the gap for low-income working families by providing them with the opportunity to purchase their own Habitat home and build a better life. We know that affordable homeownership plays an absolutely critical role in helping families create a new foundation for a stronger future, one that's filled with possibilities and progress. Affordable homeownership allows families to foster the skills and confidence they need to invest in themselves and their communities, which has a life-changing impact on their lives.
