Mission Statement
The SouthWest Communities Resource Centre (SWCRC) is a community based service providing residents with programs and resources that enhance strengths, build capacities and promote healthy wellbeing.
About This Cause
Since 2003 the SouthWest Communities Resource Centre (SWCRC) has provided resources, information, referrals, counseling, education and prevention programs to support vulnerable residents living in south Calgary. The SWCRC is one of the few community hubs that provide social programs in south Calgary. We provide supports that help our neighbours deal with daily stressors, develop a sense of belonging, learn skills and build on individual strengths enabling them to deal with future adversity. All our programs and services are free to reduce any financial barriers and are easily accessible for local residents. Neighbours have been coming to our centre for twenty years looking for information, referrals, counselling, and basic needs. In 2019 we had over 4000 visits to our centre and the need is growing following COVID-19. Our centre will strive to ensure that all vulnerable individuals of all ages and from any community can gain greater access to a range of services to meet their ever changing needs. All work will utilize evidence based practices such as Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) and utilize appropriate assessment tools. We are seen as an important asset to our residents and together with our partners we will provide a coordinated and responsive service to support and empower individuals, families and communities in Calgary South. Our work is grassroots and led and supported by local residents. Some of the specific areas we work on is: parenting education, free tutoring for low-income students, mental health and wellness counselling and support, senior support and advocacy, basic needs access and community building and reconnecting following the pandemic. All support provided goes back into programs and support to vulnerable people living in south Calgary.
