Mission Statement
The Compass Food Bank and Outreach Centre is a safe and welcoming place for people living in south Mississauga to come for immediate help with food, then we work with clients offering practical support to challenges that often accompany low income.
About This Cause
The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre is more than a food bank. Located in south Mississauga, we offer a safe and welcoming space that also offers support to our south Mississauga community members who struggle with the challenges that often accompany a low income. The Compass was started in 2002 when a small number of local churches realized they were all trying to feed people in need separately. By joining together, The Compass was born and able to provide help to more people. Over the years we have grown and much of our support comes from the community. We receive very little government funding. Funds and food come from many schools, local businesses, churches, community organizations, not to mention individual donors. The Compass is a diverse and inclusive non-profit organization that helps everyone regardless of age, gender, race, culture, background, religion and sexual orientation. Everyone is welcome to join us for a sit-down meal throughout the day and to pick up healthy and nutritious groceries and hygiene products provided they reside in our area, as defined by postal codes L5E, L5G, L5H or L5J. The Compass offers access to social services, programs and we strive to help the whole person. Whether someone needs help with employment, housing, addiction, harm reduction, loneliness, nursing care if you're experiencing homelessness, The Compass can help.
