Mission Statement
At Rise Calgary, our mission is “reducing poverty through economic and social mobility.” We seek to improve the well-being and quality of life for people in moments of crisis by providing essential services, support, and opportunities to grow social and financial health. Our vision, “everyone moves forward”, motivates us to ensure people living on low incomes have access to the resources needed to move from constant scarcity into growing economic health through our phases of stabilization, mobility, and empowerment. Rise Calgary’s stabilization services provide immediate advocacy, navigation, and financial assistance to low-income Calgarians. This support ensures they can access and/or maintain stable housing and access essential services, thereby preventing crises and promoting long-term stability. By addressing urgent shelter, food and financial needs, stabilization services help individuals and families avoid homelessness, utility disconnections, and other destabilizing events, fostering a pathway to economic resilience and self-sufficiency. Rise Calgary's stabilization services build transformative bridges for our customers, developing strategies to work on their own growth. We recognize those that who come to Rise may be anywhere on their journey - but growth and change is always possible. This is the Rise Calgary version of wraparound support; meeting urgent demands and taking people along the stages of transformation from stabilization to mobility to empowerment.
About This Cause
Resulting from a merger between BowWest Community Resource Centre and Sunrise Community Link, Rise Calgary was officially incorporated in May 2022. With office locations all around Calgary, our small but mighty team specializes in stabilizing and empowering Calgarians who are fighting for a better quality of life. BowWest started in the Northwest of Calgary in 1999, with office locations in Bowness and Ranchlands. They provided the residents of those communities with connections to economic, social, and educational opportunities, that helped them to lead more resilient lives. Sunrise was formed in the Southeast of Calgary in 2000, and served residents of 18 communities in the Greater Forest Lawn area, providing them with access to basic needs supports, resource navigation, and empowerment programming. In 2017 our agencies started to collaborate more closely on various programs to support Calgarians. This included our Community Resource Centre HUB Initiative, that brought our programs and services to communities in the Northeast and Southwest of Calgary. This deeper partnership brought our teams closer together as we shared ideas and resources to better serve our community members. In 2023 Rise Calgary opened an office and began offering tax filing and financial literacy and coaching services on Siksika Nation. Over the three years we have been on nation, the Siksika Nation team has been successful in developing and fostering relationships with the nation members and other service providers on nation.
