Mission Statement
Our mission is to develop diverse youth as engaged, caring citizens and capable contributors and leaders for a better Canada. Katimavik collaborates with other organizations to foster understanding, respect and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and with Canada’s other diverse cultures, regions and the environment.
About This Cause
Katimavik has been empowering young Canadians through our experiential learning programs for over 45 years. Through two intensive programs, we offer youth from across Canada the opportunity to develop skills in employability, self-determination, civic engagements, and Truth & Reconciliation. In the National Experience Program, participants embark on a 22-week adventure, living in groups of 11 with the support of a Project Leader. Responsible for the upkeep of their home, participants plan activities to engage with our proven learning competencies, explore their new communities, and contribute full-time at a local volunteer placement. In the FuturePerfect Program, participants get a 14-week crash course in personal and professional development, participating in intensive career development sessions and gaining meaningful, paid work experience through a placement with one of our Employment Partners. Through our extensive history, we have hosted over 40,000 youth participants, with close to 472 participating in combined programming in 2025.
