Mission Statement
To provide educational access to the thinking and findings of those enlightened beings (prophets, sages, philosophers, scientists and seers), who have spent their lives studying the nature of humankind and its relationships in the universe.
About This Cause
We envision a world where humanity lives contemplatively with deep feelings of unity in diversity and where diversity is respected in the clear light of our underlying oneness which is the TRUTH of both spiritual wisdom of antiquity and science of modernity. Our vision commits us to research, development, delivery and promotion of formal and informal education to cultivate lived feelings of unity in diversity. Currently, we are drafting a comprehensive proposal addressed to global and national governance to institute contemplative education in unity in diversity of existence at every stage of learning. Our work shows that although religions are many but their inner wisdom is one and conclusions of science converge with it. This unifying wisdom of science and spirituality is equally meaningful to persons of religion and of science. It can bridge interfaith differences, build global harmony with a sense of belonging, and create collective engagement to work together for our common and planetary good. The work of our organization is meaningful and of use to governing organizations of local as well as global scope such as the United Nations, United Religions Initiative, Parliament of World Religions. We are working on concepts and practices to understand and bridge interfaith differences with education to cultivate unity in diversity. Issues of interest include prevention of radicalization and deradicalization of the radicals, promotion of human rights and responsibilities; international relations and global engagement; climate action, sustainable development and planetary wellbeing; elimination of bigotry and identity violence; promotion of learning ability, emotional and spiritual intelligence; promotion of mental health, physical health, wellbeing and harmony in social behaviour. In addition to many journal articles, our work has led to the publications of two books: one is already published currently and the other soon to go to the publisher. The former is entitled The Common Ground-Volume 1: A Unified Basis of Existence and the latter The Common Ground-Volume 2: A Unified Basis of Health and Harmony. while the former establishes the convergence of spiritual wisdom of the Vedic, Abrahamic and Daoist traditions on one side and modern natural and life sciences on the other establishing a perennial science of spirituality, the latter aims to present the technology of how this science is applicable by design to cultivate common human good, health and harmony. Spiritual Heritage Education Network Inc. is dedicated to research, development, delivery and promotion of formal and informal education to cultivate lived feelings of unity in diversity. SHEN is dedicated to educationally addressing three major problems facing the world today: (1) Bigotry and intolerance based upon differences of any kind such faith, caste, creed, race, colour, gender, gender orientation, etc., (2) Mindless exploitation of natural resources of the planet, and (3) An epidemic of self-caused degenerative diseases of the body and the mind. We feel these problems are interrelated; setting the stage for solving one sets up the stage for solving the others as well. There are two types of content in education to cultivate harmony: (1) Conceptual content, and (2) Contemplative practices to develop the executive function to help us embody the former content to live lives in accordance with it in addition to cultivating health, harmony and lives of purpose. The principle underlying SHEN’s conceptual content is summed up beautifully by this modern quote by an American environmentalist: "Rocks and waters, etc., are words of God, and so are men. We all flow from one fountain Soul (Spirit). All are expressions of one Love". ~~John Muir The principle underlying SHEN’s practical content to raise human consciousness is summed up by this quote of a psychiatrist and psychotherapist disciple of Sigmund Freud: "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate". Carl Gustav Jung Spiritual wisdom of all religions champions the truth of oneness underlying existence. Wisdom of world religion merges with that of modern science. We think that a lack of understanding of this spiritual wisdom combined with unexamined acceptance of surficial “articles of faith” is at the root of these problems. SHEN, has been studying wisdom underlying religion. It is totally unifying. Light of spirituality underlying one’s religion dispels darkness of division resulting from its ignorance compounded by unexamined acceptance of articles of belief. Once the truth of underlying oneness is understood and embodied, we treat each other and all existence with love and respect. SHEN has been working on creating learning resources for the envisaged education. Recently published book below entitled The Common Ground Volume 1: A Unified Basis of Existence is a learning resources for the conceptual content while its companion The Common Ground Volume 2: A Unified Basis of Health, Harmony and Purpose is currently being worked upon. In addition, SHEN is currently focused on working with individuals and organizations dedicated to peace and harmony on a project to draft a comprehensive proposal for instituting research and education to cultivate lived feelings of unity in diversity of existence in order to address the grave global problems facing humanity today.
