About This Cause
Buckmasters Circle Community Centre is a not for profit, registered charity that opened in 1993. The Centre is located in the centre city of St. John's, NL in a social housing community. The Centre provides a variety of supports to low income families in the community and serves a population of approximately 650 people. We offer support services to every age group. BMC Community Centre prides itself on being a welcoming, non-judgmental organization that will meet individuals where they are at in their lives. In doing so, we strive to offer families a variety of programs and services to allow them to live their best lives. Our suite of programs and services range from Pre-School, Healthy Baby Club, After School Homework support, Breakfast Program, Summer Day Camp and special events for children and youth. For adults and families, we offer Women's Support Program, Conversation Corner(support program for adults/seniors), Social programming such as Adult Bingo and Crafts, Outings for adults, Cooking programs for families, etc. Since the start of the pandemic, we have had to adapt how we offer our programs but we are still meeting the needs of our community in creative ways. We deliver "Grocery Bags", cooked meals for Family Supper, Breakfast bags for school-age children and continue to adapt our programming when necessary. We strive to assess the needs of our community members and as the need changes, so too does our suite of programs. All in an effort to meet the need and support families in the most meaningful and impactful way. The Centre also partners with other organizations to offer additional support services to community members. We have a long standing partnership with the Regional Health Authority and through that partnership, we have the services of a Public Health Nurse and Nurse Practitioner clinic at the Centre. We also have the expertise of a Family Support Social Worker at the Centre through a partnership with NL Housing. Our FSW is an integral part of our staffing team and offers incredible supports and outreach to families in our community. BMC Community Centre is offered referred as the "Heart of the community" by our community members and staff have long established trusting relationships with so many community members. The work that is done at the Community Centre is impactful, positive and will no doubt strengthen the lives of those we support.
