About This Cause
Saanich Neighbourhood Place is a family resource program that has been providing programs and support services since 1997. We offer a range of workshops, educational programs, personalized outreach services and resources to support parents and their children up to 19 years of age and youth. Located at Pearkes Recreation Centre (3100 Tillicum) our SNP Child and Family Centre (3120 Tillicum) and Broadview United (3703 St. Aidans St) we serve the residents of Saanich and those who come to our programs from other communities. Our work is primarily focused on responding to the growing need for support and resources to address the mental health, social wellness and early childhood development needs of our participants. Family support services include individual support and outreach for families and youth, mental health programs and workshops, parent education and pre/post-natal care, anxiety reduction workshops, LGBTQ+ resources and support. Our food equity work includes weekly community dinners, food resources, cooking classes, and emergency food access. We feed the children in our care freshly prepared meals each day, provide meals and snacks to participants, and maintain a small community food access program that anyone can use. Early childhood programs include drop-in playgroups, educational resources and workshops for parents raising young children, and licensed childcare at our Full o'Beans Preschool and Beansprouts Infant and Toddler Care. Our particular community is home to many families who face several challenges to meet the needs of their families, with as many as 30% of the people who live here, children to adults, struggling to acquire enough food, maintain secure housing, get enough work, speak the dominant language, access services, obtain a basic education, overcome discrimination and abuse, manage substance use... these are just a few of the challenges we support our community with on a daily basis. Our role is to connect with the families and youth who come to us, and work to support their growth and development, helping them become more successful in their lives and create better lives for their children. We serve any and all families and youth, with no barriers to services beyond a self-identified need for support, information and resources. When we aren't the best organization to help, or more is needed, we connect people to the resources and services they need to continue being successful in their lives. With the help of the community, we are able to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of families, seeing literally thousands of visits to our programs each year. Almost all of our programs are provided free of charge (except licensed childcare), but none of them are free to provide. We are grateful for the financial support of like minded individuals and organizations who see the impact of our work in the community and appreciate how we help families every day.
