Mission Statement

Inspired by the incredible achievements of A.V. Roe Canada, we preserve Canadian aviation and technological innovation history. We use the example of the development of the Avro Arrow to provide inspiration to Canadians of all ages, that a focused and determined group of talented people can achieve amazing things. We are dedicated to preserving and presenting the accomplishments of A.V. Roe Canada as a world leader in the early age of jet aircraft. In pursuit of this goal, we are constructing a 60% piloted flying replica of the Avro Arrow in our hangar at Springbank Airport.

About This Cause

Since it's inception in 1997, the Avro Museum has amassed more than 15,000 pages of original A.V. Roe Canada documentation along with much archival material relating to the Avro Canada history. The documents contained in the Avro Museum archives constitute one of the largest references for A.V. Roe Canada anywhere in Canada. Our research has allowed us to piece together the stories of Avro's accomplishments, and the men and women who made them possible. The current major activity is the construction of a 60% piloted flying replica of the Avro Arrow, the Arrow II in our facilities at Springbank Airport, now just over 70% complete but with about 5 years of work still ahead. The long term objective is to be able to make all the materials held in the Avro Museum archives available to the public both local and on-line access through digitization. The main objective of building the flyable replica Avro Arrow, the “Arrow II”, is to use national and international airshow venues to help educate people about the extraordinary achievements of the men and women of Avro Canada, so far ahead of any equivalent development in the 1950's. The magnitude of the technical and development achievements of A.V. Roe Canada Ltd. have been unequalled to this day. It is the mandate of the Avro Museum to preserve and explain this history without the embellishments of political rhetoric or historical mythology.
