Mission Statement
The Mission of UrbanPromise Toronto is to reach children in Toronto Community Housing with the love of Jesus, and raise them into leaders, who restore their community. The Vision of UrbanPromise Toronto is to see a generation of young leaders from Toronto Community Housing who love Jesus and serve their community.
About This Cause
UrbanPromise Toronto is a Christian non-profit organization committed to raising up a generation of young leaders from Toronto Community Housing neighborhoods where 3 out of 4 children live in low-income families. This means a 20 year journey with a child, and their family, to help them overcome the obstacles that poverty creates. Through After School, Summer and March Break activities, we reach children ages 5-14, building caring relationships and supporting them in their academics, social behaviors and responsibilities, and spiritual awareness and knowledge. As they grow in their development, when they reach high school age, we provide volunteer and employment opportunities from them to be raised as leaders (we call the StreetLeaders), developing their abilities and skills as well as learning the importance of giving back to their communities. Through these opportunities they learn how to plan and execute activities for children, how to work in a team environment as well as serving the families in their communities. When they complete high school, and are in a academic and/or career path, we provide opportunities for those who are available, to provide leadership development and mentorship opportunities to StreetLeaders who are presently serving just as they once had done. We have had some who are now employed serving long term with our Organization. This process is called our Leadership Pathway - a 20-year journey with a child and their family.
