Mission Statement
Panoply is a Toronto-based actor’s initiative that prioritizes collaborative creation. We seek to re-tell classical narratives with a feminist, inclusive, and modern perspective. We strive to re-centre classical stories to feature LGBTQ2IA+, people of colour, and people of different abilities. We use site-specific & non-theatre-house spaces that reflect and complement the unique worlds of each play. CLASSICS REIMAGINED, NEW WORKS REALIZED.
About This Cause
Panoply is a Toronto-based actor’s initiative that prioritizes collaborative creation. We seek to re-tell classical narratives with a feminist, inclusive, and modern perspective. We strive to re-centre classical stories to feature LGBTQ2IA+, people of colour, and people of different abilities. We use site-specific & non-theatre-house spaces that reflect and complement the unique worlds of each play. Panoply operated as an ad hoc group for eight successful years. Then in 2025, Panoply was invited to merge with a company formerly known as Motus O Dance Theatre, and the charity was officially renamed Panoply Theatre Collective, with Panoply’s founding members as its officers. In our history as an ad hoc group, we produced a diverse range of events, including workshops, audio dramas, staged readings, and full productions. Our actor-led approach prioritizes high-quality performances of both new works and adaptations, challenging audience preconceptions and offering fresh perspectives on beloved stories. Beyond our productions, we actively engage with our community through partnerships with local community centres, libraries, and youth education facilities. We also foster emerging talent through our plays-in-development program, providing a platform for theatre creators to workshop new scripts.
