Mission Statement
Our Program provides new technology, digital literacy skills and connectivity to help level the playing field and support youth in todays increasingly digital world. ComKids empowers students to excel with real life impact, and reach their full potential in their future lives. Our participants are youth in need, who are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. We collaborate with strategic school boards and community organizations, serving various communities across Canada to deliver an impactful Program.
About This Cause
ComKids was founded with the goal of eliminating the digital divide that exists between those who have access to technology, literacy and connectivity and those who do not. For 25 years our program has provided students/youth with the latest technology and digital skills, including laptops and internet services if needed, to level the playing field and inspire academic excellence and future life ambition. The ComKids program was designed to foster youth success in a rapidly advancing digital world, emphasizing the cultivation of young leaders through community volunteerism, enhancement of digital skills, online safety and the building of confidence and self-esteem. Our program specifically targets youth facing financial challenges, offering them the opportunity to realize their full potential. ComKids has expanded from a strong presence in Ontario to 8 provinces and 1 territory. ComKids offers in-class experiences and one on one mentorship along with 5 online Master Classes. ComKids partners with Google, TELUS Wise, Springboard, Geek Squad and CIVIX to help deliver digital online learning content and resources including online safety, mental health, AI, and coding. ComKids aims to continue to expand its reach, aspiring to deliver its programs and services nationwide including all remote communities with the deliberate objective of eradicating the Digital Divide. The Program: 1. Provides brand new laptop computers (and internet, if needed) which youth use both in school and at home. 2. Offers comprehensive programming that compliments the provision of the laptop with mentorship and educator support through monthly Master Class sessions designed to assist students in developing digital literacy skills and learning to use their computers in a safe and effective way. 3. Encourages good citizenship by involving students in ongoing mentorship and interaction with educators and engaging them in school and the community.
