Mission Statement

The Depot Community Food Centre is a community-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with other community partners to address issues of food security in NDG and the surrounding areas. Our objectives are to reduce the hardships of living in poverty by: Improving food security for people with insufficient income, increasing access to healthy food, alleviating social isolation and fostering social integration of all community members, educating the public at large about issues of poverty and hunger.

About This Cause

The Depot Community Food Centre brings people together to grow, cook, and share good food, and to strive for social change in our communities. We offer programs in cooking, gardening and healthy food access for children, youth, families, seniors and adults to build skills, increase confidence and develop networks of support while reducing social isolation. Kids and teens meet in the kitchen to learn about good nutrition and make healthy lunches together. Seniors gather around a delicious meal to meet new friends and break the isolation often resulting from living in poverty. Collective gardens draw all ages to grow and share a garden’s bounty. New arrivals are drawn in to participate in community life – a strong society recognizes that everyone has something to give and the Depot respects the diversity and talents of all. The goals are to increase community health and resiliency, to help people build the skills they need to move ahead in life, and make sure everyone from kids in school to seniors at home can get enough good food to thrive.
