Mission Statement
It is the goal of the society to improve patient comfort and care while in transit in HALO. The society strives to achieve this by improving community awareness about HALO's essential service and to fundraise in order to support the operating costs of the HALO program and fund the purchase of advanced medical equipment for use on board.
About This Cause
The H.A.L.O. (Helicopter Air Lift Operation) program supports residents of Medicine Hat, 52 surrounding communities, and vast remote areas, with improved patient care and decreased transport times for critically ill or injured people. People living, working, and playing within 160km radius of the City of Medicine Hat now have a medevac rescue helicopter in addition to the network of ground based ambulances. As proven in the past, the helicopter can also be considered a valuable resource to other public service departments (e.g. City Police, RCMP, Fire). The primary function of the helicopter is the support of the local ground based ambulance program, but H.A.L.O. is available to serve the community in a variety of ways including search and rescue, and disaster response. This program allows people within our vast response area the best possible access to rapid, advanced medical care in an emergency. We are dispatched through the STARS Emergency Link Centre and we are a vital asset to the emergency responders in SE Alberta and SW Saskatchewan. HALO is a BK 117 outfitted with a Lifeport MedPak system and MedDek stretcher system.
