About This Cause

Founded in 2002, Autism Nova Scotia is a developing non-profit, registered charity located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Autism Nova Scotia was the original vision of Joan and Jack Craig, parents of an adult son with autism. Today, Autism Nova Scotia supports individuals with autism, their families, educators, healthcare professionals and researchers throughout Nova Scotia. We provide information materials, research assistance, program opportunities and a friendly atmosphere to support our members in their desire to understand autism. Autism Nova Scotia offers a variety of information, services, and program opportunities. To achieve our mission, we:  Deliver the vibrant Autism Arts program in partnership with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia  Provide Autism 101 information sessions upon request to community and professional groups  Host teen and adult social groups for people with ASD  Deliver LaunchPad, a supported employment program to help young people on the Autism Spectrum to gain work experience which supports informed career choices later in life, and to support career success for teens and adults with ASD.  Deliver Community Works, Employment Works and School Works employment programs, aimed at building employment skills and experience including both paid and volunteer placements.  Publish Autistics Aloud – a newsletter written by and for people on the Autistic Spectrum  Facilitate gatherings that bring different professional groups and communities together  Host the Autistic Self-Advocacy Council-Nova Scotia – a group by and for adults on the Autism Spectrum with a mandate to provide access to good information about autism-related issues, educational opportunities and the chance to develop effective self-advocacy skills  Operate a unique Summer Day Camp that delivers a safe and rewarding experience to children with ASD  Have launched The Promise of a Pearl, a social enterprise program featuring a high quality, affordable line of jewelry made by friends, family and people with autism. This program provides opportunities for rewarding work experience for adults on the Autism Spectrum, raises awareness, and helps support the work of Autism Nova Scotia.  Welcomed aboard eight Chapters of Autism Nova Scotia: Annapolis Valley Chapter, Bedford/Sackville Chapter, Cumberland Chapter, Pictou County, South Shore Chapter, South West Nova Chapter, Strait Area Chapter and the Truro Chapter. These Chapters, along with strong relationships and collaborations with groups across the province, have enabled Autism Nova Scotia to help move towards a better future for those touched by Autism throughout Nova Scotia. By providing parents with information that can help them seek more effective therapy options, a teacher with a strategy that can foster better inclusion in the classroom, or an autistic adult with leads to an employment opportunity, greater successes for individuals with autism and their caregivers can be achieved. That is why, at Autism Nova Scotia, we believe that support means success.
