Mission Statement
The Spectrum Advisory Board is the advisory board for the Downtown East Clinic at CAMH. The clinic provides a full range of mental health services to clients in the community and serves over 300 clients. The clients suffer from serious and persistent mental illness and as well may experience addictions, inadequate housing, and other challenges. The mission of the Spectrum Advisory Board is to improve the quality of life of these individuals and provide stakeholder input into clinic programming. The Spectrum Advisory Board provides input to the Downtown East clinic from its clients, family members and community members. As well, the Board fundraises to enhance opportunities for clients. Presently, the Board is composed of six volunteer members. Of these, three are clients, a family member and two come from the community at large. The Downtown East Clinic staff serve as needed and are nonvoting members. This representation ensures that the interest of stakeholders including consumers and family members is given a formalized structure and can participate in the decision making of the clinic and give their ideas for how the clinic functions. The Advisory Board meets quarterly at the Downtown East Clinic CAMH.
About This Cause
We offer many Community Programs: Art programs, Community field trips, Anti-smoking programs, Summer camp, Walking groups, Gardening, Cooking classes, Fitness and Yoga programs. The Spectrum Advisory Board began as a board for Spectrum. When Spectrum became a part of the Downtown East Clinic, the board decided to include clients from the other programs in funding programming and events. At board meetings a wide range of ideas for services has been discussed such as after-hours services, client recovery awards, planning the annual holiday party, family advocacy, recreational events and peer support to give a few examples. The board believes that enhanced client programming should be protected and that the Board would fund activities ensuring this would happen. A report on the clinic and activities for clients is part of every meeting agenda. The Advisory Board provides a means by which clients, families and other stakeholders can have input into services, striving for recovery, self-determination and full lives for the people we serve.
