About This Cause

Providing 6 programs: Calgary's Cooking Program - giving people regular opportunities to plan and cook a collection of nutritious and budget-friendly meals they then take home. Individuals can form their own groups or join existing kitchens. Most community kitchens meet monthly. Prior to the "cook date" participants meet to plan their menus. Community Kitchen then purchases the ingredients at wholesale prices which allow members to prepare 14 days of meals at a low cost. Tummy Tamers Program - A summer program providing complementary hot lunches and nutritious snacks for children ages 6-12 at the City of Calgary Park 'n' Play day camp sites. May children rely on school feeding programs and go hungry during summer months. Each hot lunch is also complete with a short interactive lesson on health and nutrition. Souper Stars Program - Designed to teach children in grades 4-6, personal hygiene, basic nutrition, kitchen/food safety and preparation, flyer shopping, etiquette, stranger and internet security. The purpose of this program is to empower children to make healthy lifestyle choices. The Souper Stars program has positively impacted over 34,000 of Calgary's children since 2011. Spinz-A-Round Program - Rescues food and various other items from local merchants that my have otherwise been discarded. Organizations and Agencies pick up the donations and distribute within Calgary and surrounding areas to individuals and families in need Good Food Box Program - Giving people of Calgary and surrounding areas a way to buy fresh produce at a very low cost. Participants pre-order their boxes from depots in neighboring communities and must pre-pay at a depot to secure their box. Once a month the boxes are delivered to each depot. The Good Food Boxes come in 3 sizes, small, medium and large. Welcome Home Hampers - Designed to help individuals moving away from homelessness and out of transitional living. The Welcome Home hamper provides the individuals with household essentials and non perishable items; offering a "hand up" as they enter an exciting new chapter in their lives. Disaster Response - Community Kitchen Program collaborates with the City of Calgary when disaster strikes, cooking meals to feed the evacuees and disaster response staff. In disaster situations all Community Kitchen staff are called to duty and work tirelessly until the crisis has abated. Community Kitchen Program loves the help of people who have a heart for what we do. Three ways you can help: monetary donation - we are a not-for-profit agency that relies on monetary donations to keep our programs running and lengthen our reach each year. In-kind donation - Food, toiletries, hygiene products, beverages, cleaning supplies, gift cards, items to raffle or auction at fundraisers, to name a few. If you have an in-kind donation in mind, please contact us. Volunteer - do you have a heart to help, and want to be involved? We invite all those who wish to donate time to our programs. We welcome corporate groups, teams, clubs, high schools and individuals. There are many different volunteer positions available.
