Mission Statement
Providing respite, practical, emotional, spiritual, bereavement, therapeutic / recreation support to adults, children and families living with life-threatening illnesses in the comfort of their own home, or in Toronto’s first paediatric residential hospice.
About This Cause
Emily’s House, an operating division of the Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care (PAC) since 2013, is a residential hospice that provides integrated respite and paediatric palliative care in a home-like setting. Committed to optimizing the quality-of-life for children with complex disease, disability, and an underlying life-limiting illness, we offer an alternate and extension to hospital or home care. Emily’s House provides a range of child-centred programs and services for children, caregivers, and siblings through all stages of a child’s illness, including: Medical Respite Care; Symptom Management; Transitional Care; Bereavement Care; Perinatal Care; Acute End-of-Life Care; Recreational Play; Music / Art Therapies; Summer and Recreational programming; and, integrated in-home paediatric hospice supports. PAC Community Programs and hospice supports have traditionally been provided to children, child siblings and adults in their own home or in the GTA community. Emily’s House shares a Medical Director with SickKids Hospital, our primary client referral partner. SickKids does not provide funding for our Emily’s House Medical Director or program supports, but works together with our team in providing 24/7 complex medical care. Hospice care is provided at no cost to client families. Client Impact – One family shared: “Our time at Emily's House as a family really brought us closer together. Being surrounded with so much love and support allowed us to enjoy every minute with our sweet baby. I truly believe our time in the hospice, celebrating her life every day, gave her the strength to live longer than expected. Thanks to the amazing support from the staff at Emily's House.”
