Mission Statement
Best Buddies Canada is a national charity that helps to foster friendships between individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder with students in university, college, high school, middle school and elementary schools. Founded in the United States by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies established its first chapter in Canada in 1993. Through Best Buddies, students with an intellectual disability are given the opportunities to enjoy the same experiences many of us take for granted- such as going to the mall, playing sports, watching a movie, or simply enjoying the company of a friend.
About This Cause
Best Buddies was founded in the United States by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, nephew of the late 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Best Buddies Canada was established in 1993 by Daniel Greenglass and Penny Shore and was incorporated as a registered Canadian charity in 1995. Our long-term goal is to make every school and community across Canada more inclusive and accepting of people with intellectual disabilities. Today, there are more than 425 school chapters nationwide.
