Mission Statement

Lifeline Malawi Association is a Canadian charity founded in 2003 by Dr. Christopher Brooks, a Canadian doctor living and working in Malawi, Africa. Since 1999, with its humble beginnings providing mobile medical outreach services under the shade of a baobab tree, Lifeline Malawi has grown over the past 15 years to become the Lifeline Malawi Medical Health Centre, serving an impoverished rural community of more than 100,000 people. The LM Health Centre and its wide range of services allow us to combat such diseases as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, to improve maternal health and reduce infant mortality through our maternity facilities, and to provide medical care to the 5,000 patients who come through the gates of our clinic each month. Together we are working to bring transforming hope and healing to the people of Malawi.

About This Cause

Located of the shores of Lake Malawi, in Malawi, Africa, the Lifeline Malawi Health Centre provides medical care to an impoverished rural community of over 100,000 people. Delivering babies, caring for the sick and dying, providing life-giving medicines, and strengthening the health of the community with outreach clinics and education are all a part of how we bring hope and healing to the Malawian people. The Health Centre serves an area of about 100 villages, with a total of approximately 200,000 citizens. Most of the population are dependent on subsistence rain-fed farming and local fishing to survive. Poverty, malnutrition and disease are common in the community. Malaria, which is spread by mosquitoes, is one of the biggest threats to life, along with other dangerous communicable diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), respiratory infections, childhood diseases, bilharzia, and HIV/AIDS. The concerns of health and poverty in this rural community are of great concern to us. Our goals of improving health in the community, of caring for the sick, and of reducing mortality rates has had a positive effect in alleviating poverty. Simply put, people are healthier, stronger, and living longer in order to work and provide for their families. Our services at the Lifeline Malawi Medical Health Centre include Prenatal Clinics, Under Five Clinics, the RoseTree Maternity Ward (delivering approximately 75 babies each month), and Safe Motherhood Education - all which greatly benefit the health of both women and children. We are combating HIV, through the HIV Testing and Counselling (HTC) programs, along with the on-going treatment of over 2,000 HIV-positive patients with anti-retro-viral medicines. We fight malaria, other tropical diseases and infections through our very busy Outpatient Department, supported by our well stocked Lifeline Malawi Pharmacy. Community education also plays a role in empowering people to make good choices for themselves. Due to our reputation for caring service and the availability of medicines, people will travel up to 100 KM to the LM Health Centre in hopes of finding solutions to their ill health. Presently, the clinic receives over 5,000 patients each month, saving the lives of hundreds of children and adults, prolonging life and caring for the suffering. We greatly appreciate those who support our work in Malawi and who enable us to bring hope for a healthy future to the people of this beautiful country, who we are indeed privileged to serve.
