Anthroposophy studies the wisdom about humanity, the nature of all living beings, and the evolution of the cosmos. It’s not a religion though its ways of thinking and practices are highly religious. It’s not a philosophical theory either, but to fully comprehend Anthroposophy does take highly concentrated thinking practice. Anthroposophy was founded by Dr. Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), an Austria philosopher, spiritual researcher, social activist, and educator. He immersed deeply into the traditional wisdom and with his personal observations in the spiritual world, he created Anthroposophy as a modern path to reach spirituality. Waldorf education, Biodynamic farming, Anthroposophical medicine, Eurythmy etc. are practical and artistic works based on Anthroposophy. Waldorf education—whose schools are also known as Steiner schools—appeared in reaction to the crisis of modern education. It includes kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools, as well as its specific and independent teacher preparation programs. In some countries, there are Waldorf or Anthroposophy colleges which offer bachelor degrees. The first Waldorf school was established in 1919 in Stuttgart, Germany, aiming to fully develop the inner freedom of human beings and realize social justice. Waldorf education can be seen as a means to respond to social problems through artistic and creative pedagogy. Nowadays, in more than 60 countries worldwide, there are more than 1,000 Waldorf schools, almost 2,000 kindergartens, around 300 therapeutic education centers, and more than 60 teacher preparation institutes. All these endeavors contribute to further the frontier of health care, agriculture, music, arts, philosophy and spiritual sciences etc. ● The first charted Waldorf school in Asia The story of creating CiXin Waldorf school can be traced back to year 1990 when the founder, Ms. Su Chang, first met with Waldorf education. In 1996, Ms. Chang started to transform CiXin kindergarten to Waldorf model; in 1999, she again ventured into extending Waldorf education to primary education and initiated an experimental education project. This school then became the first charted school in Taiwan in 2002 with a contract signed between Yilan County government and Anthroposophy Education Foundation. Ever since then, CiXin has frequently earned the highest grading in the inspection arranged by the government authority. In 2012, high school was started under the license of another public high school, and in 2015, CiXin was restructured as a 12-year consistent Waldorf school while the kindergarten remained as private. Ms. Su Chang, the founder, is listed as the host of the charter school project. As of year 2017, we have 33 normal classes plus 1 resource class with 905 students in total from C1 to C12.
