About This Cause

The Youth Human Rights Network (Red Juvenil de Derechos Humanos) is a dynamic, youth-led organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights, with a particular focus on empowering marginalized and underrepresented communities. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Pasto, Colombia, the organization operates as a non-profit entity registered under the Chamber of Commerce of Pasto (No. 38940) and the National Tax and Customs Directorate (NIT 900133477-5). Vision and Mission Our vision is to foster a just and inclusive society where young people are active leaders in advancing human rights, equality, and social justice. Our mission is to empower youth by creating opportunities for participation, education, and advocacy, enabling them to become agents of transformative change in their communities. Organizational Values We uphold the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and participatory governance. As a youth-led entity, our leadership and decision-making bodies, including the Management, Board of Directors, and Assembly of Affiliates, consist exclusively of individuals aged 20 to 28. This ensures that the voices and perspectives of young people are at the core of our initiatives. Key Programs and Achievements Over the years, the Youth Human Rights Network has implemented impactful projects addressing critical issues such as gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment: GIRLS Project (Gender-Inclusive Rights and Leadership for Sexuality): This initiative focused on promoting sexual and reproductive rights among indigenous communities in southwestern Colombia. Supported by the Ibero-American Foundation, it successfully raised awareness and provided culturally sensitive education on gender equality. TEENPOWER Project: A comprehensive initiative addressing sexual health education and the prevention of early pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. This program integrates technology, training, and community outreach, impacting over 1,000 youth and educators. PRETYS Project: Combining sports and human rights education, this program engages youth in activities such as football, basketball, skateboarding, and table tennis to build community resilience and promote inclusion. RESETA (Respect for Environmental Sustainability through Empowerment and Accountability): A current initiative designed to address urban sustainability challenges through youth-led solutions in climate and environmental justice. Geographic and Demographic Focus The organization primarily serves southwestern Colombia, including urban, peri-urban, and remote rural regions. Our target populations include indigenous groups, Afro-Colombian communities, and young people from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Strategic Goals To empower young leaders through training programs, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives. To promote inclusive and equitable access to education, health, and technology for youth. To advocate for systemic change through policy engagement and public awareness campaigns. To foster intergenerational dialogue and partnerships to amplify the impact of youth-driven solutions. Collaboration and Partnerships The Youth Human Rights Network collaborates with local, national, and international organizations, including the Ibero-American Foundation, WomenStrong International, and various UN agencies. These partnerships enable us to scale our initiatives and expand our reach while ensuring alignment with global development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability Our approach integrates innovation and sustainability into all programs, from developing mobile applications to improve access to information on sexual health to organizing digital festivals that empower youth to address pressing social challenges. By leveraging technology and creative strategies, we aim to create lasting impact and scalable solutions. Recognition and Impact With over 15 years of experience, the Youth Human Rights Network has been recognized as a key player in advancing youth leadership and human rights advocacy in Colombia. To date, we have directly impacted over 5,000 young people and their families, fostering stronger, more resilient communities. Future Plans As we look ahead, we are committed to expanding our reach and deepening our impact. Upcoming initiatives include digital resilience programs to combat online violence, climate justice campaigns led by young advocates, and further integration of technology in education and community development. We believe in the power of youth to transform societies, and we invite you to join us in this journey toward a more equitable and sustainable future.
