Mission Statement
"Fundacion Proyecto de Vida" provides protection to children and youth in vulnerable conditions, whose basic needs are unsatisfied. We provide help through workshops in arts and sports, school reinforcement, psychosocial support, nutritional care and safe spaces; where they can develop and acquire social, cognitive, emotional, physical and transcendent skills, that helps them face their daily lives and build better life projects.
About This Cause
Our challenge is to help vulnerable children and youth living in poor neighborhoods in Bogotá, reach more prosperous life projects and develop their social, cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities, so they can break out of their poverty circle. With your help, “Fundación Proyecto de Vida”, aspires to continue benefiting more than 550 unprotected children and adolescents monthly, by providing music and art workshops, psychological support, balanced nutrition, well-being, reduction of inequalities, protection of children's rights, school reinforcement and preparation for employability. We work with children between 6 and 18 years of age in activities aimed at contributing to their integral development. To date, our Foundation has helped more than 10,000 children and youth, avoid the risk of falling into criminal activities, school drop-outs, teen pregnancy and chronic malnutrition. Children and youth live in vulnerable conditions in Soacha, Ciudad Bolívar and Usaquén. The Life Project Foundation seeks to break with the cycle that feeds the vicious circle of poverty generating capacities and strengthening skills in those who attend our centers. We do this through activities that contribute to an integral development. These actions allow future citizens to become responsible in the construction of their own life projects and the well-being of their families. 1. Before and after-school art-based programs for more than 20 years at our 3 centers, located in vulnerable neighborhoods of Bogota and the neighboring municipality of Soacha. The purpose of these programs has been to create safe spaces where children and youths find affection and recognition through different activities, while guided by trained professionals, which seek to foster their self-esteem and self-confidence all while developing different skills that integrally enhance their development. 2. We provide physical spaces where the children and youth of the surrounding communities can find books, materials, access to internet and adults eager to help them with their tasks and homework. We give the utmost importance in helping these children and youths to strengthen their abilities and, subsequently, improve their grades. Also, and as an incentive to not only graduate from high school but to continue their education, we provide scholarships for tertiary education (any type of education beyond high school). Thirty eight participants have already graduated through this program, being the first graduates of its kind in their families. 3. The “Genero Paz” project implements workshops designed using tools from different artistic languages as well as games and sports, so that girls and boys manage to understand their sexual and reproductive health rights, acquire tools to defend their sexualities and learn to protect themselves and others. The project’s workshops also informs about routes to access reproductive health services. The underlying idea being that access to information is the best route for prevention as well that knowing your SHRH will improve the persons’ sexual assertiveness, hopefully increasing the use of contraceptive methods and therefore decreasing unwanted pregnancies.
