Mission Statement

Founded in May 2022 by Céline Greco, the IM'PACTES association aims to encourage, develop and promote the health, education and access to culture of children, adolescents and young adults, entrusted to the "Aide Sociale à l'Enfance", who are victims of serious intra-family violence or neglect. In France, more than 380,000 children and young adults are entrusted to the "Aide Sociale à l'Enfance" system for protection against serious domestic violence or neglect.Violence against children is a widespread phenomenon (over 14% of children in France), but one that is poorly understood, with serious consequences for their physical and mental health if not addressed early on. Indeed, international studies highlight a major deterioration in the health and quality of life of adult victims of childhood violence, with a loss of life expectancy of 20 years due to the development of autoimmune pathologies, cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, depression and dementia, all of which are much more prevalent than in the general population. All of them require a rapid assessment of their physical and mental health, as well as individual expertise and graduated, coordinated care over a sufficiently long period of time, due to the complex traumas they have undergone. In addition to somatic needs, which are often overlooked, these children also have significant psychological, psychomotor and speech therapy: 30% require intensive care and 10% intensive care. However, access to care is difficult: these children are referred to care too late, frequently during crisis situations that make it difficult for them to cope. 30% of children in our care receive a health check-up as soon as they are admitted to the child protection system, and less than 10% have follow-up care adapted to their somatic and psychological after-effects. What's more, almost 45% of homeless young people aged 18 to 25 come from the “Aide Sociale à l'Enfance” system, a sign that the lack of health care is compounded by a lack of educational and professional support, which prevents these young people from finding their rightful place in our society. Various studies carried out throughout France have shown that only 13% of young people in the care of the child welfare service are preparing for the “brevet des collèges” (secondary school leaving certificate), compared with 80% of the general population, and only 5% are preparing for the “bac général” (general baccalaureate), compared with 51% of the general population. These young people are cared for up to the age of 18, and some can benefit from a “jeune majeur” (young adult) contract between their 18th and 21st birthdays. In reality, however, too few young people are supported until this age (9%), and the end of care is often very abrupt for these young adults, who often find themselves without resources, a career plan or social support.

About This Cause

We believe that every child deserves individual, high-quality support to give them the freedom to choose their own future and the opportunity to achieve professional and social success. At IM'PACTE we have 2 pillars: the education pillar and the health pillar. Education pillar : we've created the “schooling/culture/vocational integration” program, which is divided into three major projects tailored to the needs of children of different ages: - The DISCOVERY project for 0/12 year-olds The Discovery project enables volunteer children to benefit from a sponsorship arrangement with a volunteer who commits to a one-year contract and visits the child's home for a minimum of 1.5 hours a week to provide one-to-one tutoring or early-learning support. The volunteer has access to a wide range of board games, manual activities and books for individual sessions, all made available by the association. In the same project, cultural outings proposed by volunteers are supported by the association, which offers tickets (opera, museum, events) to the structures on a regular basis. "The métier de tes rêves" project enables children to present their dream job (video, presentation, film) at an event where they will be rewarded and have the opportunity to meet professionals working in their dream job (firefighter, nurse, film-maker, judge, etc.), with the aim of encouraging and supporting them in their academic ambitions. Last but not least, "Love for Livres" will be setting up emotional libraries (containing over 50 books) in partner childcare centers, as well as offering bibliotherapy sessions. This project enables children to find or rediscover a taste for reading, to awaken to the world and to express their emotions through fiction. - The AMBITION project for 13/17 year-olds The Ambition project offers support to teenagers aged 13 to 17 by a volunteer, either continuing sponsorship or starting mentoring, depending on age and profile. In addition to cultural outings and library therapy, they are also offered tutoring at school , and artistic expression classes with theater and dance workshops to support their cultural openness, curiosity and creativity. The association supports them in their search for internships (3ème, seconde, découverte) thanks to our network of partner companies. The association also offers to help finance intercultural and language study trips to help young people integrate into society and discover the world. Also, to support civic engagement and meet young people's need to get involved with others, the association supports young people in obtaining their BAFA , which offers young people the opportunity to invest in occasional volunteer missions. Finally, specific projects are taking shape, such as street-art discovery workshops and the creation of monumental urban frescoes. For example, children accompanied by Vinie Graffiti, an international urban art artist, took part in the creation of a fresco at the Necker hospital in Paris. - The FUTURE project for 18/25 year-olds The follow-up of young adults aims to support their autonomy by guiding them smoothly towards their new adult life, in order to counteract the “dry exits” from the child protection system which most often occur at 18, sometimes at 21, to avoid the isolation of these young people and to enable them to continue higher education if they so wish, or at least to leave them free to choose their professional future. A young person who joins the AVENIR project is offered several types of support: - Mentoring, with an adult acting as an external resource to support the young person as he or she enters the world of work. - Financial assistance to help them obtain their driver's license and driver's code. - Job dating with our partner companies to help you find a fixed-term or permanent contract, or a work-study program. - Self-sufficiency workshops on housing, culture, health, budgeting and nutrition. - Scholarships and start-up grants to support integration and independence. - A kit including a computer and a telephone with a prepaid subscription - Opening of a bank account The health pillar: We are going to open in Novembre 2025 the first Childhood Support Center in Paris (Centre d'Appui à l'Enfance), a care facility for children in the care of "Aide Sociale à l'Enfance" or collateral victims of feminicide suffering from double trauma; it will offer expert somatic and psychological care over a sufficiently long period to enable these children to heal from their traumas. The structure will be organized around 5 axes: 1) Carrying out diagnostic assessments of children's somatic and psychological health on admission to the protection system, or in acute situations where the child is a collateral victim of feminicide. 2) Set up coordinated and graduated care paths, adapted to the child's needs according to the assessment (3 levels of care depending on the severity of the after-effects present at the time of the health assessment (standard, reinforced or intensive level), ensure continuity of health follow-up for children to limit aggravation and chronicization phenomena, and limit the number of waiting lists for child psychiatry structures or emergency room visits, which are destabilizing for both the child and the care structures. 3) Offer children therapeutic and educational workshops on self-confidence, self-esteem, nutrition and body awareness, individually or in groups. 4) Train healthcare professionals in the specificities of caring for these children, so as to create a care network and facilitate referrals to independent healthcare professionals for children who do not require intensive care within the facility itself, but who need to be cared for in coordination with the city, close to their home. 5) Train and support social workers working in children's homes in crisis management, to reduce the number of emergency room visits and hospital admissions.
