Mission Statement

At CodePhenix, our mission is to transform lives by providing digital skills and professional reintegration opportunities to incarcerated individuals and those recently released from prison. Our comprehensive approach includes vocational training in front-end development, a first professional experience through our unique web agency in prison and socio-professional support. Our goal is not just to teach technical skills, but to foster confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose. By bridging the gap between incarceration and employment in the tech industry, CodePhenix is committed to breaking the cycle of recidivism and opening doors to new opportunities.

About This Cause

CodePhenix is a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional reintegration of incarcerated individuals and ex-offenders through digital skills training. To do that, CodePhenix proposes a program, in detention or outside, that mixes vocational training in web development, a first professional experience and socio-professional support. Our comprehensive curriculum covers front-end development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, taught to a group of 8 inmates over a six-month period for 20 hours each week. This training culminates in the opportunity to earn a vocational certification. Following the training phase, participants have the chance to join our in-prison web agency, where they gain practical experience by working on real client projects. This phase not only provides valuable professional experience but also introduces them to advanced technologies like JavaScript frameworks (VueJS, ReactJS), CMS platforms (WordPress), and more. Participants learn crucial professional skills such as meeting deadlines and working effectively in team environments. Throughout both the training and agency experience, we focus on preparing our learners for reintegration into the professional world. This includes teaching job search strategies, conducting mock interviews, and inviting industry professionals to bridge the gap between the incarcerated and the external professional environment, thereby challenging and overcoming the impostor syndrome. Since 2019, this program is implemented in a prison near Paris, in Melun but also outside prison for people getting out of detention, in Aubervilliers, since 2022. There are several ways to get involve and help us in our mission. As explained earlier, we try to bring in as many people working in tech enterprises as possible to meet our beneficiaries. Teaching Technical Subjects: If you have expertise in specific technical areas, such as SCSS, ReactJS, Tailwind, ReactJS or any other IT-related skills, your knowledge can greatly benefit our learners. By teaching a class or conducting a workshop, you can help expand their skill set and understanding of the tech industry. It can also be about a web culture subject without being to technical. Peer Programming Sessions: Engage in peer programming with our participants. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to learn from real-world scenarios and witness professional practices. Your involvement can provide practical experience and foster a collaborative learning environment. Career Path Sharing: Sharing your career journey, daily routines, challenges, and successes in your professional life can be incredibly inspiring for our learners. It helps them understand the diverse pathways to success and the realities of working in various industries. To participate, please contact us at brieuc@codephenix.fr. We will discuss the most suitable way for you to contribute based on your expertise and interests.
