Mission Statement
French Version (English version below) La maison Goxa Leku est un lieu d’accueil, d’accompagnement et de soutien des personnes atteintes d’un cancer et de leurs proches situé au Pays Basque. Le projet (qui constitue une grande première en France) part du constat que la prise en charge globale des patients est trop inégale (manque d’informations, d’argent, de soutien…), que le lien entre l’hôpital et la ville est encore trop faible et que les personnes en rémission sont souvent trop isolées. La Maison Goxa Leku est un projet innovant car ce sera une grande première en France avec une nouvelle approche de soins de support coordonnée, de proximité et en lien avec tous les acteurs de santé du territoire. Nous donnons accès à l’ensemble des soins de support du nouveau panier défini par l’Institut National du Cancer (Plan Cancer défini par l'INCA 2021-2030). Notre mission Agir concrètement sur tout ce qui peut favoriser la qualité de vie de chaque personne pendant ses traitements et dans la phase « après cancer ». En mettant l’accent sur le soin, les rencontres et le partage sous forme d’ateliers individuels et collectifs. Notre approche Proposer à chaque adhérent un parcours complet et personnalisé de soins de support, prenant en compte l’ensemble de ses besoins sur le plan physique, psychologique et social. Chaque personne pourra être accompagnée dès l’annonce de sa maladie et jusqu’à 1 an après la fin de ses traitements. Maintenir et renforcer le lien avec les soignants, à l’hôpital comme à la ville, pour assurer une complémentarité et une vision à 360° du parcours de soins global. Le Parcours Goxa Leku Il est pluridsciplinaire réunissant un panel varié de professionnels de soins oncologiques de support, en un même lieu Il est complémentaire aux traitements médicaux prescrits par les spécialistes. Il est Innovant et pensé avec les patients, selon leurs souhaits et besoins. Il est coordonné par des infirmières spécialisées en oncologie. Il est financé par la Maison Goxa Leku grâce à des levées de fonds publiques et privées. Il est reconnu par le corps médical. English version What is La Maison Goxa Leku? La Maison Goxa Leku is an association that will open the first oncology supportive care home in the Basque Country - a real house of 200 sqm located at the exit of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. La Maison Goxa Leku is a link between the hospital/clinic medical treatment setting and the return home, allowing patients a break in isolation and offering them a soothing and rejuvenating environment. The mission is to accompany patients with cancer, men and women, as well as their relatives. The association will support adolescent and adult patients of all genders and cancers combined. Patients will be able to integrate the association as soon as the disease is diagnosed and up to one year after the end of the treatments. Patients will be offered support care activities by the team, taking into account all of their needs and those of their relatives on the physical, psychological, and social levels. A coordinator (experienced nurse) will meet with all the new members, referred by their Doctor, to establish a global pathway composed of day care activities. The coordinator will be in charge of the pathway coordination for the patients and will be a link with the Hospitals and Clinics. No accommodation will be offered on site. To offer different support care activities, La Maison Goxa Leku will bring together a wide range of professionals, in one location (non-exhaustive list): acupuncture, adapted physical activity, neurocognitive workshops, physiotherapy, back-to-work coaching, pain management strategies, discussion groups, onco-sexology, psychology, reflexology, meetings with experts, socio-hairstyling, socio-aesthetics, support and coaching for caregivers, sophrology, dietary follow-up and much more! Among the different support care activities to be proposed, employment will be at the core of the program. A specific and unique pathway will be created to support patients on employment topics from their cancer diagnosis to their return to work, for those who had stopped. The support care activities will be provided in group workshops (80%) and individual workshops (20%). As each member will have different needs, it is very difficult to estimate a precise need per person. However, in a global way, La Maison Goxa Leku wants to allow each member an access to at least 2 group workshops per week, that is to say 94 sessions per year. Individual workshops will be determined on a case-by-case basis according to the needs of the members. The association will provide its members with free access to the support care activities subject to a modest membership fee (30€). The professionals will be rigorously selected and will intervene as paid service providers (for those not covered by social security).
About This Cause
French version (English version below) Face au cancer, nous avons tous un rôle à jouer. Chaque année, plus de 37.000 nouveaux cas de cancer sont diagnostiqués en Nouvelle Aquitaine et la prise en charge globale des patients est malheureusement encore trop inégale (manque d'informations, d'argent, de soutien...) et le lien entre l’hôpital et la ville est encore trop faible. De cela est né un projet, celui de créer la 1ère maison de soins oncologiques de support du Pays Basque. Cette maison, la Maison Goxa Leku, est un projet associatif de grande envergure qui ouvrira en juin 2022 à la limite de Saint Jean de Luz, sur la Vieille Route de Saint Pée. Encore trop peu connus sous ce nom, les “soins de support” sont tous les soins qui viennent en complément des traitements lourds et permettent une meilleure qualité de vie, une diminution des séquelles et surtout de meilleures chances de guérison. Ce sont des consultations psy, diététique, activité physique, acupuncture, sophrologie, accompagnement social et bien d’autres ... Entre 100 et 150 patients-adhérents, hommes et femmes tous cancers confondus, sont attendus la 1ère année. Chaque patient-adhérent se verra proposer un parcours d'accompagnement depuis l’annonce de sa maladie jusqu’à 1 an après la rémission. Le parcours sera composé d'ateliers collectifs et individuels, en accueil de jour. Certains ateliers seront également ouverts aux aidants/proches des patients-adhérents. L’association assurera la gratuité du parcours sous réserve d’une somme modique d’adhésion. La Maison Goxa Leku travaillera en lien étroit avec tous les professionnels de santé exerçant en ville comme à l'Hôpital de Bayonne, à la Clinique Belharra et à la Polyclinique de St Jean de Luz. Cela afin d'assurer un réel maillage territorial qui permettra une fluidité dans le parcours de soin des patients. Nous n’en serions pas arrivés là aussi vite sans le soutien de nos premiers partenaires : la Fondation du Crédit Agricole Pyrénées Gascogne, l’Agence Donibane, Schmidt Cuisine, le Garage Luzien et la Ligue Contre le Cancer 64. Les derniers partenaires à nous avoir rejoint sont l’entreprise SOKOA et la Communauté d’Agglomération Pays Basque. Une belle reconnaissance du secteur public qui ouvrira sans nul doute à un soutien des villes, du département et de la région. La Maison Goxa Leku sera ouverte à tous les habitants du Pays Basque : en présentiel ou en distanciel pour ceux ne pouvant se déplacer ou dont les temps de déplacement seraient trop longs. En effet, un volet digital sera mis en place afin de proposer des contenus vidéos adaptés et interactifs. Vidéos réalisées avec des experts de la santé (oncologues, chirurgiens, médecins..), sur des sujets de prévention, d'information et de gestion des effets secondaires. L'équipe qui porte le projet de la Maison Goxa Leku est composée d'experts entrepreneuriaux mais aussi de directeurs de structures médicales (Polyclinique, Structure Hospitalisation à Domicile...). Le conseil d'administration va s'étoffer et un conseil scientifique est en cours de construction. La Fondatrice et Présidente, Sylvie Houliere Mayca a été soignée en 2020/2021 à l'Hôpital de Bayonne pour un cancer du sein et souhaite ainsi mettre son expérience entrepreneuriale au profit de tous pour faire bouger les lignes de l'accompagnement des patients atteints d'un cancer. Afin de structurer et lancer le projet de la Maison Goxa Leku, Sylvie est accompagnée, à temps plein, par Clémence Plassat, Déléguée Générale de l'association qui dirigera la maison à son ouverture. Le projet a déjà reçu la confiance des acteurs de santé, de donateurs privés, d'élus de collectivités publiques, de mécènes et de journalistes. Pour que le projet puisse être réellement lancé et surtout pérennisé, l'équipe souhaite s'entourer du plus d'acteurs, privés mais aussi publics, sensibilisés à la cause. This ambitious strategy aims to significantly reduce the burden of cancer in the daily lives of French people. It follows the successive Cancer Plans and continues the collective mobilisation established on the fight against cancer. This strategy revolves around four priorities: ● improve prevention; ● limit after-effects and enhance the quality of life; ● fight against cancers with poor prognosis; ● ensure that progress benefits everyone. The best way to limit after-effects and enhance the quality of life of cancer patients is to develop oncology supportive care in France. The goal of supportive care is to prevent or treat as early as possible the symptoms of a disease, the side effects caused by treatment of a disease, and the psychological, social, and spiritual problems related to a disease or its treatment. It is also associated with comfort care, palliative care, and symptom management. A 2018 study reveals 86% of patients consider supportive care helpful in managing the after-effects of treatment. Supportive care also helps increase the chances of recovery and reduce the risks of recurrence. In France, supportive care is mainly offered to end-of-life patients, or is very expensive and not affordable to all those who need it. Access to this care is very inconsistent when it should be essential. With the impetus of the successive French Cancer Plans, a number of associative supportive care homes have been created to support patients in Paris, Bordeaux, Nantes, Amiens and Marseille...but nothing yet exists in the Basque Country or in the Atlantic Pyrenees (Dpt 64). To remedy the situation and provide innovative supportive care to patients in the region, the non-profit association “La Maison Goxa Leku” was created in May 2021. The main mission of the association is to improve the quality of life of the patients and to increase their chances of recovery, along with the reduction of post-treatment after-effects and the reduction of the risks of recurrences. The ambition of La Maison Goxa Leku: ● to be a structure close to the home of the patients of the Basque Country; ● to be an out-of-hospital structure; ● to offer a real approach with trained and competent local primary care professionals; ● to offer support care to all (regardless of income); ● to practice a true territorial network; ● to work in partnership with the main various regional organizations and institutions: Institut du Sein Pays Basque, Belharra Clinic, Polyclinic Hospital of Saint Jean de Luz, Association Hope Team East, Ligue contre le Cancer, Centre Régional de Dépistage des Cancer ... The team that supports the Goxa Leku House project is composed of entrepreneurial experts but also of directors of medical structures (Polyclinic, Home Hospitalization Structure...). The Founder and President, Sylvie Houliere Mayca, was treated for breast cancer at the Bayonne Hospital in 2020/2021 and wishes to put her entrepreneurial experience to the benefit of all in order to transform the way cancer patients are being helped. The house will be open to the public in April/May 2022. How can you help the project? La Maison Goxa Leku is a French non-profit “Association de loi 1901”, supported by the health authorities and mainly financed by private companies & donors. La Maison Goxa Leku’s team is looking for long-term funding to be able to help hundreds of patients each year (around 150/200 for the 1st year). The annual budget is around 250,000€ and split in 4 sections: ● The wages of the 2 experienced in-house professionals (1 full time direct, 1 part time coordinator - experienced nurse) ● The fees of the outside professionals for the supportive care activities. ● The rent of the house ● The overhead costs The first donations received enabled the official launch of the project but as 2 jobs will be created, the team aims to build long-term partnerships to enshrine La Maison Goxa Leku's work. Step by step, each donor helps make the house a unique and exemplary project on the territory. The association needs the support of all to consolidate its annual budget.
