Mission Statement
Aid projects for Honduras - We support and encourage children, families and communities on their journey to seize existing opportunities and create new ones.
About This Cause
The Opportunity Project exists as a direct response to global inequality and the effects it has on people living in Honduras. By cooperating with impoverished communities, we implement specific initiatives to create new opportunities for its vulnerable families. With access to education, the basis for health and new income opportunities, we aim to equip children, youth and other members of the community with the knowledge, tools and motivation to break the cycle of poverty. 1. Gardens for Growth The aim of this initiative is to provide families in rural Honduras with healthy food and to promote food security - because everyone has a right to eat. We provide the families with the seeds, tools and knowledge to plant and maintain their own vegetable gardens. In this way, they benefit permanently from direct access to nutrient-rich fruit and vegetables. 2. Scholarship Initiative The aim of the TOP Scholarship Initiative is to offer ambitious children and young people from Honduras the opportunity to continue their education after completing primary school. Since a lack of financial resources is the main reason why children are unable to go to secondary school, the TOP scholarships cover all costs that arise in the course of the school year. 3. Food for Thought Initiative The aim of the initiative is to create incentives for children to attend school regularly and permanently. As one of the main factors for low school attendance is the malnourishment of the school children, we set up school-based nutrition centres. Now, attending children receive a healthy meal every school day. 4. Water for Health Initiative The aim of this initiative is to create a safe, inclusive and equitable learning environment for the school children of our cooperating communities in Honduras. In order to do so, we are equipping schools with access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities, as well as learning resources for improving the children’s hygiene behaviour.
