Mission Statement
The AFV works to provide families in Afghanistan with initial and life-saving aid to overcome poverty and destitution. It follows the goal to increase access to humanitarian aid for Afghan families in dire need and to rebuild the country sustainably by provision of basic health care services, education, drinking water, emergency relief and aid following natural disasters.
About This Cause
Ever since the foundation of the Afghan Volunteer Women’s Association 30 years ago we have worked to improve the living standards of the people of Afghanistan, in particular that of women and girls on a long-term basis. The situation for women and girls is often very difficult, their chances of leading a life that is self-determined are limited. They therefore need a high degree of protection, encouragement and educational support. This is what we set out to do with our projects in north, east and southern Afghanistan. We promote: • School education for actuall 5.000 children • Vocational trainings/artisan skills • Scholarships for university education • access to safe drinking water by over 100 building wells per year • Medical Care / Health Education in seven own basic health clinics • Support for Families in dire need • Emergency Aid in wintertime and after natural desasters We work in remote rural districts of Afghanistan – in places where there is hardly any other aid arriving. Over the years our projects have developed and become more ambitious: Schools are extended; scholarships enable those leaving our schools to go on to academic institutions; professional training centers and courses in IT and English prepare them for the future; with health care we help to reduce the high mother and infant mortality. In rural areas of Afghanistan only one in four people have access to clean drinking water. Therefore providing wells is another of our priorities. Sometimes strokes of fate make our special and immediate support vital. In these cases we undertake emergency help and provide family sponsorship. Over the period of 30 years we have reached more than 2 million people. Our supporters in Germany work on an honorary basis and with great personal commitement. We spent more than 4 moth per year inside Afghanistan to review the success and progress of the projects in the field and to support our 210 local collegues and health and education experts. Every helping hand, every donation for our work is urgently needed! Join us in our work. Help to give women and girls in Afghanistan a future.
