Mission Statement

Experience the mountains. Preserve the mountains. We are the Alpine Club for Germany - and home to all who love the mountains. Our members experience the mountains individually or in a community setting, according to their own ideas, always with an ecological and safe approach - today and in the future. Together, we are committed to permanently preserving the ecosystem and wilderness of the mountains as our primary activity area.

About This Cause

Our Guidelines: Ecological Mountaineering leaves a footprint: in nature and in the atmosphere (CO2). As we want to continue to be active in the mountains and promote the mountain experience, we are limited in our ability to completely eliminate our footprint as mountain sports enthusiasts. We are aware of this conflict of goals and therefore try to make a responsible evaluation in each of our activities. Renunciation can also be an appropriate result of such evaluation. We promote resource-efficient and sustainable mountaineering by evaluating and planning our own activities accordingly. We want to take a role model position. Accordingly, we sensitize our members with appropriate campaigns, especially by raising awareness at events, in training or on tour. In the medium term, we want to become climate-neutral - not only in our business or service centers, but consistently as a whole association. This includes - as far as political conditions allow us - all mountain sports activities of our members, which are exercised with us. The effectiveness of our activities is more important to us than their radiance - accordingly, we prioritize the avoidance of negative environmental impacts over their compensation. The Alps as our primary field of activity are massively influenced not only by on-site use, but also generally by climate change, development, traffic, and many other regional, supra-regional and global factors. Therefore, we are committed not only to environmental activities in the Alps, but also beyond. We actively work with suitable environmental organizations. In media, at events and on-site, we always try to sensitize the public (not just our members) to environmentally friendly behavior in the mountains and in connection with the mountaineering use of the mountains. We want to be perceived as a strong voice and at the same time influence the behavior of all mountaineers. Safe In the context of our extensive training program, our members can learn the numerous alpine sports in a structured and well-founded way. Our tour program offers our members the opportunity to put their acquired knowledge of various forms of mountaineering into practice together and under professional guidance. As base camps, the numerous mountain huts of the Alpine Club are available to our members. The Munich & Oberland Alpine Club currently owns and operates 16 managed and 22 self-catering huts. We also maintain the paths and trails in our working areas. In our service centers, our members can borrow complete mountaineering equipment as well as comprehensive guide and map material. They also receive up-to-date information on tour conditions, their membership, the Munich and Oberland sections as well as the Alpine Club and can take advantage of our sales offer. Our members benefit from the insurance benefits of the Alpine Safety Service. Communal Our members experience communal mountaineering primarily in our groups, in youth work and in the context of our training and tour programs. We promote these opportunities for communal activity in the mountains, in mid-mountain regions, but also in the local area. As a community of mountain sports enthusiasts, we are open and tolerant.
