Mission Statement
Our main tasks We pursue our goal of ensuring and promoting the quality of life by informing about and raising awareness for HIV and Aids, and by offering counselling, care services and self-help groups for people with HIV/Aids and their family members We offer space for self-organisation and support existing networks of HIV-positive people and their family members. We do extensive public relations work for a tolerant social climate, in which people from different lifeworlds are not discriminated against. We critically influence policies, in particular social and health policies, as well as medicine and research, and we strive to cooperate with others to improve care services.
About This Cause
The Berliner Aids-Hilfe e.V was founded in 1985. The organisation has set itself the goal of ensuring and promoting the quality of life for people who are affected or threatened by HIV or Aids. Our primary concerns are holistic health promotion, acceptance of different ways of life, social emancipation and self-help. We are politically, ideologically and religiously independent. The key principles of our work Human dignity is inviolable. All people have the right to individuality and the freedom of personality development and spiritual activity. We accept and endorse individual life plans and different lifeworlds. Our actions are guided by respect for autonomy and gender / cultural differences. The Berliner Aids-Hilfe has a total of 45 employers which share 25 full time jobs (we had some jobs for people with 7 houres /weekly to fill up disability pension). More than 160 volunteer workers enable us to provide an extensive range of services: encounter groups, clothing store, telephone exchange, hospital and nursing home visits, emotional support, accompanying people on administrative business or when seeking social legal advice, Café Ulrichs, sporting and recreational activities, donation collections. Without this commitment, the work of the Berliner Aids-Hilfe would be inconceivable.
