Mission Statement
SolidarityNow (SN) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization founded in Greece in 2013, to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our society. Our mission is to improve people’s lives and empower them to create a just and inclusive society, working towards a world of solidarity, hope and tolerance, where people live in dignity and security.
About This Cause
SolidarityNow aims to support and enable individuals to take their lives into their own hands and become active members of society. To achieve this, SN implements an array of complementary programs throughout Greece, supporting vulnerable and marginalized individuals to actively participate in the creation of an open and inclusive society, where difference and diversity are seen as positive elements, strengthening and enriching individual lives and experiences. SN has supported more than 350,000 beneficiaries to date. SolidarityNow has defined four programmatic priorities to guide its work for the period 2023-2025: a) Supporting inclusive education for all b) Catalyzing livelihoods opportunities c) Improving social protection and inclusion d) Enabling access to justice and the protection of human rights SN is present across mainland Greece, with its headquarters in Athens and a regional management office in Thessaloniki. At the heart of the organization’s interventions lie the Solidarity Centers which SN has established in Athens (Athens Solidarity Centre - ASC) and Thessaloniki (Blue Refugee Centre - BRC), both of which operate with an open-door policy, welcoming all people in need without discrimination, based only on their vulnerability. At the same time, the organization has developed considerable expertise in delivering services inside refugee and asylum seeker camp settings, having implemented interventions in over 30 such sites across Greece over the years. We are also active in supporting Greece’s Roma communities, with experience working in Roma settlement settings. Our programming yields valuable insights from the field, which we utilize to develop advocacy and research initiatives documenting our work, formulating best practices, and raising public awareness on issues affecting Greece’s most vulnerable populations. We have accumulated significant experience in managing large-scale programs and partnerships, as well as smaller-scale interventions. The organization’s key partners include UNICEF, UNHCR, the International Organization for Migration, the EU Commission, EEA Grants, and the Council of Europe, as well as foundations, such as the Kahane, Bodossaki, Latsis, and Shapiro Foundations. Our private sector donors include Eurolife FFH, Eurobank, Alpha Bank, and Airbnb. SN is registered as a charitable non-profit humanitarian organization in Greece. To effectively advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable, SN is a member of national and international networks including the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), the platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), the European Federation of National Organizations working with the Homeless (FEANTSA), the Greek Network for Shelter and Housing, the Consortium on Refugees’ and Migrants’ Mental Health (CoReMH), the Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN), the Athens Coordination Committee for Migrants and Refugees (ACCMR), the Migrant and Refugee Integration Council of Thessaloniki and various national and regional working groups and committees.
