Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect biodiversity, foster harmony between humans and wildlife, celebrate the beauty of nature, and advance citizen science through collaborative monitoring.

About This Cause

The Together For Nature Foundation (Közösen a Természetért Alapítvány) operates izeltlabuak.hu, a citizen science platform dedicated to advancing knowledge of Hungary's arthropod biodiversity. Established in 2016 and maintained as a non-profit organization since 2021, our platform enables nature enthusiasts, photographers, and researchers to collaboratively document and study Hungary's arthropod wildlife. Through izeltlabuak.hu, users can document their arthropod observations with photos, geolocation data, and other relevant information. Professional entomologists contribute by identifying recorded species, creating a comprehensive monitoring service. All data is freely accessible and can be used for scientific research and educational purposes, promoting open knowledge sharing. Our platform automatically generates distribution maps for species based on aggregated user data. These maps are essential tools for tracking invasive species spread and understanding the distribution patterns of all arthropod species in Hungary. The recorded observations serve as valuable resources for scientific publications and conservation efforts. As of April 2025, we have collected over 503,000 observations from more than 5,657 users. Our repository contains and provides access to an impressive collection of 4.3 million image files covering more than 16,000 distinct species. This growing database offers a detailed and reliable picture of the current state and changes in Hungary's arthropod wildlife. Our data is also shared with the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), the world's largest biodiversity database. This integration significantly amplifies the impact of our citizen science efforts, making our observations available to researchers and conservationists worldwide. Through GBIF, our data contributes to global biodiversity monitoring, scientific research, and conservation planning, demonstrating the far-reaching value of citizen science in understanding and protecting our natural world. We invite you to support our mission through your generous donation. Your contribution helps us maintain this free service, ensure uninterrupted recording of rapidly growing observation data, and expand our capabilities to provide even more comprehensive resources to our users. Together, we can advance citizen science and deepen our understanding of the natural world.
