Mission Statement
The mission of Csodalámpa (Magic Lamp) Wish Granting Foundation is to grant 280 to 300 wishes a year: a wish to any, 3-18 years old child, who suffer from a life-threatening illness. In 2024 we could grant 328 new wishes for children under medical treatment in Hungary, having overstepped the threshold of 5 000 fulfilled wishes since our foundation in 2003. Our volunteer magicians teach magic tricks to in-patient children in 15 big pediatric clinics with great success. The chosen tricks sopport the medical rehab process, helping the children to recover theis mental and physical capabilities, like motoric and mental skills. Magic Lamp Foundation provides the props needed to practice the tricks free of charge, thanks to our sponsors.
About This Cause
The Magic Lamp Wish Granting Foundation (in Hungaian: Csodalámpa Alapítvány) has been fulfilling wishes of gravely sick children since 2003. Our goal is to spread joy, surprise and a permanent memory, giving strength to children and their families to persevere through the years of adversity. We granted the 5000th wish in 2024. The wishes range from simple toys to musical instruments and laptops or handy-s, meeting Hungarian and world famous celebrities like Carlos Santana, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Pope Francis, travelling to Spain to watch a soccer match, visiting Paris, making a Harry Potter Tour in England, etc. We have seen hundreds of times that the granting of a wish, thought improbable or even impossible, boosts the morale of the ill child (and that of the parents), give strength to carry on with the hardships of treatments, side effects, etc. Magic Lamp Foundation is supported by our 202 strong national wish-granting volunteer network. Among them are general managers and nurses, farmers and doctors who want to help and give joy to "Magic Lamp" children. We publish reports on every wish fulfillment on our partly bilingual homepage - some of them translated to English. Magic Lamp's annual reports has been audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers "pro bono" since 2007. The English translation of our annual reports can be read on our English homepage. Our operation and the costs of wish fulfilling has been financed by private and company donations and a so called 1% income tax scheme (the tax payer can direct 1% of its tax to an NGO). End of 2019 we have started a very special rehabilitation program, based on David Copperfield's Project Magic. The adapted version is called Healing with Magic and our voulteer magicians teach such magic tricks to the in-patient children that supports the medical rehabilitation process, gives fun, helps to reduce the stress of the hospital surrounding, helps motoric and mental abilties. The program is already used in 15 big pediatric clinic nationwide with great success.
