About This Cause
About the Foundation for the Development of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital The Foundation was established in 1990 by Heim Pál Children’s Hospital. The aim of the Foundation is to develop the Hospital and improve the conditions of the children’s treatment and catering as well as to develop the instrumentation and the professional competence of the employees. The Foundation for the Development of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital is one of the most successfully functioning organizations. This can be seen from the great support it is having both from private individuals and corporations and from its highly effective use of the donations received. The work of the Foundation is often held up as a positive example by the press. The Hospital’s working conditions and instrumentation have developed a great deal with the help of the Foundation; thereby not only the pediatric health provision of Budapest but also that of Hungary has improved greatly. From among the activities of the Foundation for the Development of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital the most significant one is the improvement of the Hospital’s stock of instruments. During the past eighteen years the Foundation has backed up the healthcare of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital with an extremely great number of instruments. With the help of donors it has granted the Hospital a great number of medical instruments from pulse oximeters or infusion pumps that cost a couple of hundred thousands forints to an up-to-date ultra sound equipment costing HUF 36 million. It was no use keeping the Hospital’s instrumentation at international level with the help of the Foundation while the conditions of the children’s health provision kept deteriorating. Therefore the Advisory Board of the Foundation has determined on developing the Hospital’s buildings as well. The first action in favor of this was to create the place of the newly acquired CT in 1994. Afterwards, the Foundation gave financial support to the Hospital to have the flat roof of the Hospital’s main building replaced with a tented roof and to build in the attic. Two lecture rooms and the offices belonging to the university department for postgraduate medical education were placed in the attic while the offices of economic provision were placed on the other level. By using the vacated space it was possible to extend the area of the Dermatology Department and the area of the Department of Toxicology thereby providing better conditions for the patients being treated at these departments. Following a lengthy preparatory work the construction of Building G of the Hospital got started jointly with the Metropolitan Local Government. In the course of executing the project of almost one billion forints a new pavilion is being built to replace the old building that was claimed to be life-threatening in 1993. It will be inaugurated in 2009 providing space for the Pediatric Internal Medicine Department, the Gastroenterology and Nephrology Department as well as the Sleep Research Lab. The Foundation intends to keep on helping the development of the Heim Pál Children’s Hospital. The Hospital functioning as the Pediatric Centre for Central Hungary accepts patients from all over Hungary, as this is the only place where certain specialities in pediatric healthcare are represented. The Foundation had plans made to have the Hospital’s Manual Block built. The programme of more than ten billion forints can only be realized with great support but it can help the pediatric health provision of Hungary and the neighbouring countries undergo huge development.
