Mission Statement
“Uniting for A Kinder World - Every Child deserves to Feel, Seen, Heard, and Nurtured.”
About This Cause
"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." -His Holiness, the Dalai Lama About AyurGyan Nyas (AGN) - Uniting for a kinder world With the blessings of His Holiness, 14th Dalai Lama, AyurGyan Nyas (AGN) was established in 2014 as a not-for-profit organization. AGN's profound commitment is to nurture hearts and minds of young individuals through integration of Universal Ethics Education (UEE). In a world where educational systems often prioritize academic outcomes over emotional and ethical growth, AGN stands firmly with a vision to embrace whole children - Intellectually, Emotionally, and Ethically. AGN believes that education is not only about information but also about transformation. Drawing inspiration from the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks, the UEE extends beyond by grounding itself in the timeless principles of compassion, responsibility, discernment, and mindfulness. Through thoughtfully designed UEE curriculum, tools, and interventions, AGN brings these values into the lives of children, educators, and communities ensuring or building a positive environment where emotional well-being and moral development flourish side by side. Through our guiding philosophy "Every child deserves to be seen, heard, and nurtured," AGN creates safe and supportive environments or spaces in the underserved urban neighborhoods, remote Himalayan villages, or institutional care settings where children and their communities can heal, learn, and grow together. Why Does Our Work Matters ? Children’s emotional health is deeply connected with actions, reactions and responses of caregivers, educators, and community workers. Therefore, AGN’s interventions are holistic and inclusive i.e. working not just only with children aged 6–14, but also with parents, educators, community facilitators, social workers, caregivers and vulnerable populations, including women. We also believe that every adult who supports a child must also be empowered, equipped, and emotionally nurtured. When we uplift the caregivers, educators, social workers etc. we uplift children and when we uplift children we transform the future. Our Vision AGN envisions a world where children grow up with the strength to pause, reflect, care, and take meaningful action. We aim to empower individuals to develop inner awareness, ethical sensitivity, and social responsibility. Our three core objectives are: 1. To integrate Universal Ethics Education (UEE) into the curriculum of schools, marginalized communities, higher education institutions, and professional spaces. 2. To enhance ethical, social, and emotional well-being across individual and collective levels. 3. To empower individuals and communities to become active agents of positive societal change. Our Outreach AyurGyan Nyas has made a meaningful impact across 9 states in India, reaching over 12,300+ students through its Universal Ethics Education interventions. Our work spans 120+ schools, 3 higher educational institutions, 11 community centers, and 3 child care institutions, where we have collaborated with more than 1,600+ teachers to provide them with the relevant skills and tools to create emotionally supportive learning environments. Through these efforts, we continue to build a foundation of ethical, social, and emotional awareness among diverse groups of learners and educators across the country. Our Community Interventions: - 1. Ek Anokhi Pathshala: Universal Ethics Curriculum Classes The flagship intervention of AGN, Ek Anokhi Pathshala (A Unique Classroom), delivers modular, age-appropriate UEE content to children across multiple centers. Our sessions help children develop emotional intelligence, ethical reasoning, resilience, and positive social behaviors. Facilitators receive continuous support through field visits, WhatsApp-based reporting, and feedback sessions. Baseline and follow-up assessments track children’s growth in areas such as emotional regulation, self-awareness, and peer relationships. We currently operate at 14 multiple sites in Delhi: I. Community-Led Learning: Suryoday Centre, Sultanpuri The collaboration started in 2021 with the Department of Women and Child Development Government of NCT of Delhi, and is now running under the Department of Social Welfare Government of NCT of Delhi. AGN established a unique educational center in Sultanpuri, one of Delhi’s most underserved areas grappling with substance abuse and youth crime. Our trained educators lead transformative UEE sessions that have become a cornerstone of the local community's healing journey. II. Four learning Centers at ASHI ( Association for Social Health India) III. Emotional Wellbeing at Institutional Homes: Salaam Baalak Trust. AGN partners with the Salaam Baalak Trust to offer weekly UEE classes at: a. Aasra Children’s Home (Najafgarh) b. DMRC Boys’ Home (Tees Hazari) c. Aarushi Girls’ Home (Gurugram) These classes are designed for institutionalized children, helping them process trauma, rebuild trust, and envision a brighter future. Enrichment sessions for staff support long-term, sustainable emotional rehabilitation. IV. JAMGHAT Pathshala (a pavement school for underprivileged children) V. Himalayan Outreach: Spiti Valley, Lahaul, and Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh) Through a formal partnership with the Department of Elementary Education, Himachal Pradesh, and Tong Len Charitable Trust, AGN began an ambitious rollout of UEE in 2021 across some of the most geographically isolated regions in India. Current reach in Himachal intervention: a. Spiti Valley: 65 government schools, 4 private schools b. Lahaul: 25 government schools c. Kinnaur: 13 government schools, 2 private schools Our Key activities include: i) Distribution of free UEE workbooks ii) Online and offline capacity-building workshops iii) Baseline and endline assessments iv) Regular field visits and community engagement for M&E. 4. Inclusive School-Based Programs Across India AGN conducts UEE sessions and teacher workshops in diverse educational settings, and is currently engaged in many Schools across India in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh etc. 5.Schools for children with special needs in Shillong (Meghalaya) Our sessions help educators build more compassionate, mindful classrooms where students feel emotionally safe and ethically grounded. Methodology & Assessment To ensure measurable impact, AGN follows a data-informed approach. We use Baseline and Endline Assessments for all child participants to evaluate the effectiveness of our UEE curriculum. These self-assessment tools explore changes in students’ self-awareness, social behavior, ethical reasoning, and emotional resilience. Our interventions are designed to be: 1. Modular and contextual 2. Interactive and experiential 3. Culturally sensitive 4. Age-appropriate Our Assessment & Impact In the 2025 Salaam Baalak Trust published A research report based on primary research conducted with not-for-profit organizations who have experience dealing with children from rescued and traumatized backgrounds: The Power Within: Educating Rescued Children – Critical Analysis and Emerging Narratives, several key excerpts from the research findings have been mentioned in the report: 1) At AyurGyan Nyas, the facilitators are encouraged not to impose their own ideas or tell children what to think. Instead, they are guided to help children develop their own thinking skills. 2) Children enjoy the session since no teacher is standing ahead and talking to them using a blackboard about what an emotion is. 3) The teachers admit that such a curriculum is helping them understand these children better. It is not easy to work with these children which leads to staff attrition. The staff need a lot of patience and compassion to deal with these children. 4) Including mindfulness practices as part of their everyday routine has helped the children acquire a shared vocabulary and help each other. Our Partners Our work is possible due to strong partnerships and support from: 1. Department of Social Welfare Government of NCT of Delhi 2. Himachal Pradesh Education Department) 3. Grassroots organizations (e.g., Salaam Baalak Trust, SPYM, ASHI etc.) 3. Educational institutions and schools 4. Community leaders and facilitators These partnerships enhance our reach, sustainability, and ability to embed ethical education into existing systems. Why Support AyurGyan Nyas?
