Vision To build a just, inclusive, and humane society where domestic workers, migrants, children, and elderly women are respected as equal citizens, fully enjoying their human rights, dignity, and opportunities for holistic well-being. Mission To organize, empower, and support domestic workers, migrant workers, children, and elderly women through rights education, legal empowerment, protection mechanisms, skill development, social security, and policy advocacy, thereby transforming oppressive structures and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods and social justice.

The Tamilnadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust (TNDWWT) Organizational Overview The Tamilnadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust (TNDWWT) is a committed, grassroots, non-profit organization established to protect and promote the rights, dignity, and well-being of domestic workers, migrants, children, and elderly women across Tamil Nadu. Since its inception, TNDWWT has been dedicated to addressing the persistent issues of invisibility, exploitation, marginalization, and lack of legal and social protections faced by these vulnerable groups. The Trust operates with the vision of creating a society where every domestic worker, migrant, child, and elderly woman can lead a life of dignity, free from violence, discrimination, and exploitation, with equal access to rights, opportunities, and social security. TNDWWT works in both urban and rural settings, responding to the specific and evolving needs of domestic workers and other vulnerable populations through a combination of rights-based advocacy, capacity-building initiatives, community mobilization, education, protection services, and livelihood support. Objectives 1. To organize domestic workers into collectives, to enable them to claim and exercise their rights. 2. To enhance awareness among domestic workers about labor rights, social security schemes, and government policies. 3. To strengthen access to social protection mechanisms such as health insurance, pensions, maternity benefits, and welfare boards. 4. To promote child rights by ensuring access to education, protection from exploitation, and opportunities for growth. 5. To safeguard migrant workers through safe migration pathways, legal awareness, and grievance redress mechanisms. 6. To protect and uphold the dignity of elderly women by preventing neglect, abuse, and ensuring care and security. 7. To advocate for policy changes at local, state, and national levels that recognize and improve the status of domestic workers. 8. To collaborate with government bodies, civil society organizations, and international networks to amplify impact. Key Focus Areas 1. Empowerment of Domestic Workers • Formation and strengthening of domestic workers’ collectives. • Awareness sessions on labor laws, minimum wage, sexual harassment prevention, and grievance redress mechanisms. • Legal support for cases related to workplace abuse, wage theft, and termination without notice. • Facilitation of access to Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers Welfare Board and other social security benefits. 2. Safe Migration for Migrant Workers • Pre-departure orientation on safe migration practices, rights at destination, contract literacy, and grievance mechanisms. • Legal assistance in cases of exploitation, trafficking, wage disputes, and detention abroad. • Partnerships with Protector of Emigrants and other agencies to ensure ethical recruitment. • Reintegration support for returnee migrants through livelihood training and psychosocial care. 3. Protection and Education for Children • After-school programs, tuition centers, and educational sponsorships to prevent school dropouts. • Child protection activities to combat child labor, trafficking, and abuse. • Life skills training, health camps, and counseling services. • Engaging parents and communities to create child-friendly environments. 4. Support for Elderly Women • Formation of elderly support groups to prevent isolation and neglect. • Health camps, access to government welfare schemes, and advocacy for better old-age care services. • Legal awareness on property rights, protection from abuse, and access to pensions. • Psychological support and spaces for recreation and community integration. 5. Livelihoods and Skill Development • Vocational training in housekeeping, caregiving, tailoring, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. • Financial literacy, savings groups, and access to micro-credit. • Digital literacy and modern skills to adapt to changing labor markets. • Employment placement services ensuring safe and fair opportunities.
