About This Cause
Grama Vikas Foundation (GPF) is a dedicated community-driven non-profit organization working towards the holistic and sustainable development of rural communities in India. Our mission is to build self-reliant, peaceful, and prosperous villages by empowering individuals, strengthening local institutions, and creating an environment where every community member can lead a life of dignity, security, and economic stability. At GPF, we believe that true development begins at the grassroots level. We work closely with children, women, youth, small and marginal farmers, the differently abled, and other vulnerable groups, ensuring that they have access to essential resources, education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities. By creating local leadership structures and mobilizing community participation, we help villages design and implement their development plans, enabling long-term, sustainable progress. Children and Youth Empowerment GPF is deeply committed to the education and well-being of children and youth, recognizing that they are the foundation for a brighter future. Our After-School Learning Centres (ASLCs) provide structured academic support to students from underprivileged backgrounds, helping them excel in their studies and develop leadership qualities. We currently run six ASLCs, benefiting over 220 children who otherwise lack a conducive learning environment at home. Through these centres, students receive professional guidance, participate in leadership training, and engage in activities that boost self-confidence and self-esteem. To enhance their physical and cognitive development, we provide nutritious snacks and organize sessions on values, ethics, and social awareness, educating them on crucial issues such as child marriage, gender equality, and superstitions. In addition to ASLCs, we operate two Balwadi Centers, catering to nearly 60 preschool-aged children. These centres focus on early childhood development, offering a safe space, structured learning activities, and nutritious meals to support the growth and well-being of young children from disadvantaged backgrounds. For older youth, GPF implements skill development and vocational training programs to equip them with marketable skills. Our initiatives have successfully trained individuals in driving, technical education (ITI and diploma courses), and other trades, enabling them to secure stable employment. Beyond skill-building, we mentor young people to become responsible and compassionate individuals, instilling in them strong family and community values. Women Empowerment and Financial Inclusion Women are at the heart of our development initiatives, as they play a crucial role in shaping families and communities. GPF actively works to empower women socially and economically, ensuring they have access to financial resources, skills training, and decision-making opportunities. We facilitate the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), where women engage in collective savings and receive microcredit support to launch small businesses and income-generating activities. Through these initiatives, women can break free from exploitative moneylenders and achieve financial independence. Our women's empowerment programs also focus on rights awareness, leadership development, and social participation. By organizing workshops and awareness campaigns, we encourage women to take an active role in their communities, advocating for their rights and making informed life choices. Each year, GPF celebrates International Women's Day, providing a platform for women to express their aspirations, share their achievements, and inspire one another. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH) Initiatives Access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene facilities is a fundamental human right. GPF works tirelessly to improve the living conditions of rural communities by addressing these basic needs. We have successfully installed 20 bore-wells across multiple villages, providing potable water to over 750 families. To combat open defecation and promote hygienic living conditions, we have supported the construction of 80 individual household toilets. We also conduct hygiene awareness campaigns, training communities—especially adolescent girls—on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. Our initiatives include distributing mosquito nets to protect families from vector-borne diseases and ensuring communities have access to essential healthcare services through trained health workers who collaborate with government health schemes. Healthcare Support for HIV/AIDS and Differently Abled Individuals GPF provides vital support to people affected by HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition, medical care, and social assistance. We currently support 125 individuals with food kits containing 12 essential food items, helping them maintain their health and well-being. We also assist children living with HIV/AIDS by ensuring they have access to continued education and emotional support. Our health workers closely monitor their medical needs, facilitating access to ART ( Antiretroviral Therapy or Assisted Reproductive Technology). centres and government hospitals. For differently abled individuals, GPF promotes inclusive development by advocating for their rights and helping them secure livelihood opportunities. We have provided tri-cycles to children with mobility challenges and have supported youth in starting small businesses. Through awareness programs and community engagement, we strive to create villages where differently abled individuals are respected, supported, and integrated into mainstream society. Agriculture and Sustainable Livelihoods Agriculture is the backbone of rural India, and we work closely with small and marginal farmers to promote sustainable agricultural practices. GPF encourages natural and zero-budget farming techniques to enhance soil fertility, reduce dependency on chemical inputs, and improve yields. We have distributed six varieties of fruit trees to 850 families, contributing to food security and economic sustainability. In collaboration with government agricultural and horticultural departments, we assist farmers in adopting eco-friendly practices and diversifying their income through allied activities such as dairy farming, beekeeping, and agroforestry. Our goal is to make farming a viable and dignified occupation while ensuring environmental conservation. Housing and Infrastructure Development Many families in marginalized communities still live in unsafe and inadequate housing conditions. GPF works to secure better housing facilities by leveraging support from government and non-government agencies. We have successfully repaired 45 houses and facilitated the construction of 92 homes for Scheduled Tribe families across multiple villages. Our efforts ensure that vulnerable families have access to secure, weather-resistant homes, improving their quality of life and safety. Environmental Conservation and Climate Action GPF recognizes the urgent need to address climate change and environmental degradation. We actively engage in afforestation initiatives, distributing and planting over 600 forest trees in both individual households and community lands. Through education and awareness programs, we train children, youth, and farmers on the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. Our clean village campaigns promote waste management, afforestation, and renewable energy solutions to create eco-friendly rural communities. Community Leadership and Governance At the core of our approach is community-led development. We believe that villages should be empowered to take charge of their own progress. To achieve this, we have established Village Development Committees (VDCs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Farmers’ Development Groups (FDGs) to facilitate local governance and collective decision-making. Our leadership training programs equip community members with skills in communication, bookkeeping, networking, and advocacy, enabling them to effectively access government welfare schemes and drive village development. Conclusion Grama Vikas Foundation is committed to creating a transformative impact in rural India by building self-reliance, economic stability, and social inclusion. Through our integrated approach—spanning education, healthcare, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, environmental conservation, and community leadership—we are building a future where every village thrives. Our journey is fuelled by collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, and grassroots organizations. Together, we envision a world where every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to lead a life of dignity, security, and prosperity
