Mission Statement

At Samavesh, we are committed to creating an equitable and inclusive society where marginalized communities—especially women, youth, and children—achieve social and economic empowerment. Through a holistic approach that integrates education, women’s empowerment, local governance, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood opportunities, we strive to foster participative democracy and social justice. Our mission is to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills to advocate for their rights, monitor public services, and actively engage in local governance. By strengthening community capacities and supporting schools, we aim to drive sustainable and transformative development, ensuring a just and empowered future for all.

About This Cause

Samavesh integrates programs—spanning education, women empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and participatory governance—with a deep commitment to inclusive development. By nurturing grassroots organizations like SHGs and Sakhi Manch, engaging community volunteers such as Chote Guruji, and implementing forward-thinking initiatives in education, livelihood, and healthcare, Samavesh continues to drive transformative change. The "Program for Participative Change and Learning – Holistic Socio-economic Development" encapsulates this vision, setting the stage for replicable, holistic development that can uplift entire communities and inspire broader regional progress. Each intervention is interwoven with a philosophy that values local knowledge, participatory decision-making, and sustainable practices. Through strategic partnerships and community-driven approaches, Samavesh is not only addressing immediate challenges but also laying the foundation for long-term resilience and empowerment in the regions it serves. Our Major programs are given below: Education Program: At the heart of Samavesh’s work is a holistic education strategy that goes far beyond classroom teaching. Working closely with government education functionaries at the cluster, block, and district levels, Samavesh supports schools and local administrative bodies while simultaneously building community capacity for monitoring and enhancing educational outcomes. Key aspects include: Community Engagement: Recognizing that children’s education is influenced both at school and at home, Samavesh actively involves parents, local communities, and volunteers in monitoring school performance and strengthening local governance. Capacity Building: Through strategic partnerships and professional development initiatives, school administrators, teachers, and community leaders are equipped to overcome challenges and harness opportunities in diverse educational settings—from urban schools to remote rural areas. Targeted Support for Marginalized Children: In Bhopal, where more than 20% of the population lives in slums or impoverished Bastis, many children struggle with basic literacy. In response, the Community-Based Education Program has been launched to create safe, supportive Learning and Activity Centers. Learning and Activity Centers: These centers are set up in community spaces such as verandahs, temples, or unused school rooms and are managed by local youth volunteers known as “Chote Guruji” (aged 14–18). Inclusive Management: Local youth, supported by academic and life skills training, mentor young children while simultaneously developing their own leadership and teaching skills. Holistic Learning: Beyond academic support, the centers offer interactive sessions with books, science kits, puppetry, art and craft activities, and storytelling to foster creativity, teamwork, and cooperation among children up to 12 years old. Maternal Involvement: Mothers are encouraged to participate actively, receiving guidance to create conducive learning environments at home through simple teaching aids and structured study schedules. Adolescent Health Focus: The program also addresses the health needs of adolescent girls, providing advice on menstruation-related issues and ensuring that educational efforts are complemented by sound health practices. Women Empowerment, Livelihood, and Governance Program: Samavesh’s rural development initiatives are deeply rooted in the empowerment of women—an essential pillar for building sustainable communities. Focused on regions such as Khategaon block of Dewas, Khirkiya block of Harda, and areas bordering the Panna Tiger Reserve, the program emphasizes capacity building and income generation through community organization. Key elements include: Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Sakhi Manch: Women are organized into SHGs that not only serve as financial instruments for credit and savings but also evolve into women forums known as Sakhi Manch at the village level. These forums enable women to actively monitor and support local governance institutions—such as Panchayats, schools, and Anganwadi centers—ensuring that service gaps are identified and remedied. Sakhi Manch leaders help design village development plans and advocate for better use of local resources, such as water, and improved infrastructure including toilets, electricity, water supply, roads, and drainage systems. Livelihood and Sustainable Agriculture: In partnership with organisations experienced in livelihood promotion and sustainable agriculture, Samavesh facilitates access to small bank loans as well as community-led credit initiatives, with many women preferring loans via their SHGs due to established trust. Natural farming initiatives are a significant focus. Collaborating with MP-NCNF and the Agriculture Department, Samavesh trains roughly 700 farmers, supporting about 700 acres in eco-friendly practices during both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Champion farmers and young cadres are nurtured to inspire wider adoption of sustainable practices, while efforts are made to ensure that bio-inputs are available at the village level. Nutrition and Kitchen Gardens: Complementing economic empowerment, the program promotes nutritional well-being by helping over 2500 families set up and maintain kitchen gardens across all three seasonal cycles. These gardens serve as a preventive measure against malnutrition and anemia, benefiting families directly and reinforcing the link between sustainable livelihoods and improved health. To date, more than 374 SHGs and 112 village-level women forums have been facilitated across 126 villages, directly empowering over 4000 women and catalyzing community-led development. A Program for Participative Change and Learning – Holistic Socio-economic Development: This project is designed as a proof of concept for a holistic, participatory approach to socio-economic development in 10 villages of Khategaon block, Dewas district. By integrating initiatives across local governance, education, livelihood, and healthcare, the project aims to transform these villages into self-sustaining, resilient communities. Project Objectives and Interventions: Community Engagement and Governance: Establish local community forums to facilitate regular dialogue and participatory planning. Conduct awareness programs on pressing social issues, encouraging greater involvement of women and youth in Gram Sabha and Panchayat meetings. Enhance access to government schemes and entitlements, ensuring that community members are well-informed and empowered to claim their rights. Livelihood Enhancement: Organize and support women through SHGs, enabling them to manage savings and pursue income-generation opportunities. Map local livelihood options—spanning agriculture, horticulture, and livestock—and provide the necessary inputs to scale these opportunities into sustainable models tailored to the region’s agro-ecological realities. Education Enhancement: Create conducive learning environments both within the community and at home. Collaborate with local Panchayats to monitor school performance and support initiatives aimed at preventing dropouts and fostering youth engagement in extracurricular activities. Healthcare Improvement: Strengthen the roles of Asha workers, Anganwadi centers, and primary healthcare facilities by promoting preventive healthcare practices and raising awareness about hygiene. Focus on building systems for preventive healthcare, particularly for children, adolescents, and mothers, through close coordination with local health workers such as ANMs. By fostering a participatory model where community leaders are encouraged to experiment, learn, and share best practices, the pilot project aspires to create a ripple effect of positive change. Local innovations are celebrated and adapted, enabling neighboring villages to draw inspiration and replicate successful strategies. The ultimate goal is to establish a dynamic, community-driven framework that addresses multidimensional poverty while creating sustainable economic, educational, and healthcare outcomes.
