About This Cause
Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, established over twelve centuries ago by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, stands as a beacon of Sanatana Dharma and spiritual wisdom. Nestled in the sacred town of Sringeri, the Math has continually upheld its founding principles while expanding its compassionate outreach through a wide spectrum of charitable initiatives. From Vedic preservation and temple restoration to healthcare, education, and social welfare, the Sringeri Math tirelessly serves the needs of society under the divine guidance of its revered Jagadgurus. 1. Protection of Sanatana Dharma At the heart of the Math's mission is the protection and propagation of Sanatana Dharma. This includes the practice, teaching, and dissemination of Vedic wisdom, as enshrined in the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the commentaries of Adi Shankaracharya. The Math conducts regular spiritual discourses, yajnas, and rituals to nurture the dharmic way of life among people of all backgrounds. 2. Veda Samrakshana (Preservation of the Vedas) Sri Sharada Peetham's commitment to Veda Samrakshana is manifested through its support of traditional Veda Patashalas, where students are trained in reciting and understanding the Vedas as per age-old traditions. These patashalas are fully supported by the Math, covering accommodation, food, clothing, and education. The Math also conducts Vedic Sammelans and honours Vedic scholars to encourage excellence in scriptural studies. 3. Go Samrakshana (Cow Protection) Recognizing the sacred role of the cow in Indian tradition and agriculture, the Math runs well-maintained goshalas dedicated to the care, feeding, and medical treatment of cows. Contributions to Go Samrakshana go toward daily feeding (nitya go bhojana), veterinary care, shelter, and staff salaries, reflecting a holistic approach to animal welfare rooted in dharmic values. 4. Temple Restoration and Preservation The Math has taken active steps to preserve and restore ancient temples, ensuring that these centers of worship and culture continue to inspire future generations. Recent initiatives include the restoration of dilapidated temples and the construction of new temples such as the Sri Sharada Temple in Teetwal, Kashmir.
