About This Cause
Centre for Women and Girls (CWG) was founded as a secular non-profit organisation staffed by a mixed-gender team from different tribal communities of Manipur, working in the hill districts of Chandel and Tengnoupal bordering Myanmar. Our work revolves around the four inter-linked themes of gender justice, child rights, peace processes, and livelihoods. We seek the support of communities to work together, and approach problems from systemic standpoints: dealing with both the episodic short-term events and working towards seeding long-term change. CWG works with different communities, genders and age groups. It extends comprehensive legal aid to victims/survivors of gender-based violence, but also a limited number of interest-free loans as well as access to welfare schemes. It simultaneously works on gender sensitization across age groups. Youth workshops cover aspects of sexual harassment and feminism. Different ethnic communities are encouraged to come together for workshops on peace and sustainable development, and for observation of action days. CWG works with children across villages by way of children clubs that engage in joyful activities that foster values of kindness & inclusivity. A nascent library program for the children is also taking shape. A few government programs are implemented by CWG at any given point in time, with current ones being administration of One Stop Centres in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts & implementing Jal Jeevan Mission in Tengnoupal district.
