About This Cause
Sakya foundation operates across three main thematic areas: health, education, and livelihood, with a focus on serving communities in semi-urban and rural areas in India. Health Program: The foundation's health program begins with infant screening at government hospitals. This initiative aims to identify developmental delays, defects, deformities, and diseases in infants. Once identified, the foundation enrolls these infants in an early intervention program. This program provides a range of therapies, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and special education. Moreover, caregivers are trained to ensure that children achieve maximal functional independence. Additionally, the foundation conducts a women's wellness program, focusing on spreading awareness among pregnant women about the importance of proper nutrition and medication for a healthy pregnancy. Education Program: In the education program, Sakya Foundation collaborates with Government schools and Anganwadis (pre-school and daycare centers in India). The foundation empowers teachers with various teaching strategies to cater to Children with Disabilities. This involves providing modified curriculum materials and offering training to parents. Furthermore, efforts are made to encourage neurotypical children to act as buddies, fostering inclusivity and accessibility. For adolescent children, the foundation provides pre-vocational training in diverse skills such as data entry, painting, baking, gardening, etc. This training prepares them for the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) exams for the tenth and 12th grade. Livelihood Program: Sakya Foundation's livelihood program focuses on sustainability. Women with disabilities and caregivers are involved in manufacturing mixed millet nutrition powder. This product is then procured by the government for its nutrition program. This initiative not only provides livelihood opportunities but also contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community. Collaboration and Capacity Building: To achieve its mission, Sakya Foundation believes in collaboration. The foundation actively engages in capacity building for Government stakeholders, corporates, and the community. This approach aims to ensure that inclusion becomes a lived reality, fostering a more accessible and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities and neurodivergent traits. In summary, Sakya Foundation's holistic approach across health, education, and livelihood demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of Individuals with Disabilities in India through targeted programs and collaborative efforts.
