Mission Statement
Caregivers Asha Society is a non-profit organisation that addresses the needs and challenges of caregivers who care for older people or those with chronic illnesses. The primary goal of the Caregivers Asha Society is to raise awareness about the crucial role played by caregivers in families and the wider community. Our vision is to empower family caregivers by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to care for their loved ones effectively, ensuring their well-being, and enhancing their quality of life. Our mission is to reach out to family caregivers and equip them with comprehensive training programs that will enable them to tackle caregiving challenges confidently. Our dedication and expertise aim to enhance their caregiving abilities, improve their understanding of medical conditions, and provide the necessary tools to ensure the best care for their loved ones. Our objectives include: • Supporting caregivers by conducting research, providing education and training, and engaging with the community to improve the quality of life for caregivers and those they care for. • Imparting knowledge about the best practices for caregiver support programs, caregiving skills, self-care, and stress management. • Offering in-person classes and online learning options, encouraging young people to consider careers in caregiving, and recognising outstanding caregivers through awards programs. We also aim to establish an institute for imparting education in care sciences.
About This Cause
Caregivers Asha Society is a non-profit organisation registered under The Rajasthan Societies Act, 1958 (Rajasthan Act No. 28) in 2019. It is a group of like-minded people from medicine, education, social science, engineering, scientists, and social activism. The society addresses the needs and challenges of caregivers who care for older people or those with chronic illnesses. Caregivers Asha Society is a member of the Global Alliance for Care (GAC) and WHO Civil Society Commission. In communities worldwide, informal caregivers are crucial in caring for sick or elderly individuals. Caregivers can come from diverse backgrounds and can be of any age, socioeconomic status, and geographical location. They assist individuals with daily activities such as dressing, cooking, eating, toileting, medication management, and medical appointments. Caregivers also support seemingly simple tasks that many take for granted, such as getting in and out of bed or a chair. In some cases, they provide specialised home care services. Family members and these caregivers often take on the challenging task of caring for their loved ones, sometimes putting their lives on hold. Despite their essential role, caregivers often receive minimal support and recognition for their work. Caregivers are a universal phenomenon transcending culture and nationality and face common challenges. The absence of adequate training, knowledge, and support for caregivers can negatively impact their quality of life and the quality of care they provide. Project Description I: Youth Engagement Program: Future Caregivers Initiative One of the primary objectives of the Caregivers Asha Society is to foster a culture of empathy and care within our communities, particularly among the youth. We recognise the immense importance of understanding the challenges faced by our elderly population and the vital role of caregiving in enhancing their quality of life. To achieve this objective, we have initiated a project that focuses on creating awareness and instilling the values of care and compassion in the younger generation. Youth Engagement Program: Future Caregivers Initiative: Our Youth Engagement Program is designed to educate and inspire students aged between 14 and 18 in secondary schools. Through a series of engaging lectures, interactive presentations, and informative sessions, we aim to: • Raise Awareness: We give students insights into the unique issues and concerns older people face. By fostering understanding, we encourage them to recognise the importance of caregiving in family dynamics. • Empower Caregivers: Our program equips young individuals with the knowledge and skills to contribute as family caregivers. We emphasise the significance of extending a helping hand to elderly family members. • Promote Empathy: We nurture empathy and compassion among students, enabling them to develop a sense of responsibility toward the well-being of elders. This not only enriches family relationships, but intergenerational bonding also strengthens the social fabric of our communities. • Inspire Action: Beyond awareness, we encourage students to take proactive steps to support elderly family members, whether through daily assistance, companionship, or emotional support. Impact and Outcomes: Our Youth Engagement Program aspires to achieve several significant outcomes: • Increased Awareness: Students better understand old age and caregiving challenges. • Empowered Youth: The youth are better prepared to care for their elders actively. • Enhanced Family Bonds: The project fosters stronger connections within families. • Cultivating Compassion: We inspire young individuals to embrace compassion and empathy. Through this initiative, we aim to create a generation of caring, responsible, and empathetic youth who, in turn, positively influence their communities and promote the values of caregiving. By investing in our Youth Engagement Program, your support will impact the youth and contribute to building a more compassionate and supportive society. Stationed at Jodhpur, the society works in the districts of western Rajasthan. Project Description II: Video-Based Awareness Campaign: As part of the Caregivers Asha Society's commitment to addressing the needs and challenges of caregivers and older people, we have embarked on a dynamic initiative that harnesses the power of visual storytelling and digital platforms to create an impact and drive change. Our project centres on creating short, informative videos that shed light on the problems associated with old age and present practical approaches to address them. By utilising social media as a distribution channel, we aim to engage and educate a broad audience, with a particular focus on the younger generation. Video-Based Awareness Campaign: Our Video-Based Awareness Campaign is a multifaceted endeavour that leverages the following components: • Compelling Short Videos: We produce short, attention-grabbing videos highlighting older people's unique challenges and innovative solutions that can improve their lives. • Educational Material: We provide educational material that supplements the videos, offering practical tips and advice for caregivers and those interested in caregiving. • Social Media Promotion: We leverage social media platforms to distribute videos and educational material, engaging a broad audience and promoting the values of caregiving. Through this initiative, we aim to create greater awareness and understanding of the needs and challenges of caregivers and older people. By highlighting the importance of caregiving, we hope to inspire individuals and communities to actively support their elderly family members and those in need of care.
