Our mission is to foster a society where individuals with disabilities can fully participate and thrive, breaking down barriers and ensuring equal access to resources, training, employment, and social inclusion. Our commitment to this mission is unwavering, and we believe that by working together, we can create a world where all individuals, regardless of their abilities, can realise their full potential and lead lives filled with dignity, respect, and opportunity.

About This Cause

In a world where the elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are often marginalised, Maya CARE Foundation shines as a beacon of hope and empowerment. Established in 2009 by founders (both professionals from simple backgrounds), Manjiri Gokhale Joshi and Abhay Joshi, this non-governmental organisation has a profound mission - to provide free assistance to the elderly and empower PWDs to learn, earn, lead, build careers, and achieve economic independence. The heart of Maya CARE's existence lies in its commitment to extending a helping hand to the elderly and creating opportunities for PWDs to thrive. Extending a Helping Hand to the Elderly: Maya CARE Foundation's core mission revolves around caring for the elderly, a segment of society that often faces practical challenges and emotional isolation. The organisation has assembled a team of dedicated volunteers spanning various age groups, from students and professionals to retirees and homemakers. This diverse team offers a wide range of services, including intellectual, logistical, medical, and emotional support. During their visits, these compassionate volunteers selflessly assist with tasks that range from paperwork to providing companionship, accompanying the elderly to doctor appointments, and fulfilling their daily needs. The significance of these services transcends the practical help they offer; they address the emotional well-being of the elderly, alleviating the sense of loneliness and isolation that many seniors endure. Maya CARE Foundation's approach isn't just about addressing the practical challenges of the elderly. It's about fostering companionship, understanding, and a sense of belonging, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those in their golden years. Empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): What truly sets Maya CARE Foundation apart is its unwavering commitment to empowering PWDs. Project Bindu, an ingenious creation of Maya CARE, serves as a holistic solution to the challenges faced by both the elderly and PWDs. This groundbreaking project actively recruits individuals with disabilities and equips them with tailored training, coaching, and mentoring to enable them to lead economically independent and dignified lives. Project Bindu is not just an initiative; it's a testament to Maya CARE's dedication to inclusivity. It embodies the belief that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can contribute meaningfully to society. By providing PWDs with opportunities for skill development and career growth, Maya CARE is not only changing individual lives but also reshaping societal perceptions and attitudes towards disability. Sustainability Through Business Process Outsourcing (BPO): Maya CARE Foundation's commitment to sustainability is evident through its innovative Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) unit, which was launched in 2021. In this groundbreaking initiative, skilled PWDs take on back-end work outsourced by corporations. This approach not only supports the economic independence of PWDs but also generates revenue to further the organisation's mission. The BPO unit represents a win-win scenario. It empowers PWDs by offering them paid work opportunities, providing a sense of purpose and financial security. At the same time, it allows Maya CARE Foundation to expand its reach and impact in serving the elderly and PWDs. Impact and Reach: Maya CARE Foundation has made a significant impact since its inception, benefiting more than 2,000 elderly individuals with the support of a network of 1,700 dedicated volunteers. The organisation has conducted over 22,700 free visits to date, underscoring its unwavering commitment to reaching those in need. Furthermore, Maya CARE's vision extends beyond its current scope. The organisation envisions a future where disabled individuals from India and the UK can break the cycle of dependence, achieve economic empowerment, and support their families. This global perspective reflects Maya CARE's dedication to creating lasting change, both in the lives of those it serves and in society's perception of the elderly and PWDs. Overcoming Challenges: The journey of Maya CARE has been one of dedication and resilience. In its initial 11 years, the founders, who come from middle-class backgrounds, contributed 92% of their personal salaries to fund the organisation. However, as they approached retirement age and faced personal challenges, the organisation's funds became precarious. There were no large donors, no corporations, and no grants. To overcome these challenges, Maya CARE needed to innovate and respond with agility. The founders recognized the need to seek individuals who saw their own success in serving the elderly, mobilise a dedicated team, groom them to be leaders, and secure the resources to pay them. Today, Maya CARE stands as the world's only organisation offering free assistance to the elderly while empowering PWDs. It's a testament to the human spirit's capacity for compassion, resilience, and innovation. In conclusion, Maya CARE Foundation is more than just a charitable organisation. It's a testament to the power of compassion, the value of inclusivity, and the potential for individuals, regardless of their physical abilities, to contribute meaningfully to society. It's a story of hope, empowerment, and resilience, and a testament to the impact that a dedicated team of volunteers can make in the lives of the elderly and PWDs. Maya CARE Foundation's vision extends beyond borders, and it represents a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
